it was a helluva of mess .. i had booked a couple nights in galveston ... ended up staying well inland ... had to scramble for lodging with most already taken up with out of town power crews and displaced locals. i had lived in houston area for a number of years, even lost a boat in alicia in ‘83, and had never seen it as bad as from ike.

A GOES-16 1-min mesoscale sector was consistently available over Harvey during its life cycle. For tropical cyclones, 1-min imagery has proven to aid in identifying a center of circulation and in tracking thunderstorm evolution.

On 24 August, 30-second imagery (two overlapping 1-min sectors) was requested to track Harvey, providing a rare look at a strengthening tropical system.

newer high water gauge signs will indicate levels along state roads. Do not "eyeball" the situation. Pay attention to these gauges if traveling....
