IMO people are confusing what he said before he was a candidate. I would think if as a candidate he promised to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, it would be easy to find.

None of the articles I’ve been reading quote such a promise from his campaign but all cite statements he made before he was a candidate.

True, however that tactic did not kill the will to fight on by the future generation that was left. Also there was plenty of refuge for future generations to continue the fight, which is the underlining problem (Will not refuge, where there is will, there “will” always be a way).
