A Navy guided-missile destroyer, the USS John S. McCain, collided with a commercial vessel east of Singapore early Monday morning local time, the Navy said.
There were 10 sailors missing and five injured, the Navy said.
The collision with the merchant ship Alnic MC occurred east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore at 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time, as the McCain was on its way for a routine port visit in Singapore, the Navy said.

What the heck? The most advanced warships/technology in history...and two collisions within months.
Something ain't jivin.
Coincidence? sabotage from within? sabotage from without?computer hack? deliberate ramming by the other vessel? Poor training and procedures? Any other possibilities that I’ve missed?
To add to that list, I’ll add something Sundance at Conservative Treehouse speculated about with the Fitzgerald accident. Is it possible that the Navy is training for or already actively involved in a boarding and/or blockading action which would require our ships to operate within closer than usual proximity to target vessels?
Very puzzling.
Ship was named after John McCains father and grandfather. Both Navy Admirals. Not the current loser.
Has diversity training taken precedence over knowledge of basic ship handling? But then Holly Graf got away with running aground on a sand bar.
Obama political appointees?
Well they have relieved from duty 13 officers and sailors on the USS Fitzgerald (the ship in the previous accident). The accident report has not yet been released but it is clear that they found major failures in command and performance.
The CO and XO are both named Sanchez.... (but not for long...)
CO became a Surface Warfare Squid after busting out of Primary Flight School.
The Straits of Malacca are one of the busiest in the world. There is a clearly defined traffic separation scheme. There is no way that the CO was not on the bridge. As a former Officer of the Deck (underway) the incedents are flat out embarrassing.
One should be careful not to make the mistake of ascribing to malice that which can better be explained by imbecility.
Yes, I posted that in #19.
It is REAL SIMPLE
Steady Bearing Decreasing Range = Collision, you don’t even need Radar, a Lookout can determine this.
SHEESH
Agree totally. See #47
Worked with some USN Riverenes and also some SEALs at Go Di Ha in RVN. All good guys and “good in the woods” or on the rivers and canals.
Gotta wonder...

I can only assume that the obama regime with toady mabus as SecNav decimated the officer corp.
I wonder if the ships on the Atlantic coast can navigate better than this during the eclipse? Should we send eclipse glasses, or flashlights?
I saw a guy in the news from the University of Texas take control of a yacht with a laptop. The fact that he used a laptop tells you how long ago it was. Lots of advancements since then.
No surprise, was named for John McCain.
How can there be that much imbecility? Maybe it is because they just were not training well under Obama, but now that President Trump is trying to get things in shape they are stumbling due to lack of practice? Naw...
“Two collisions with civilian ships within a few months! This is embarrassing.”
Could this latest incident be intentional by the civilian ship?
Truedat! I would not want my kid stationed on THAT ship!
