A Navy guided-missile destroyer, the USS John S. McCain, collided with a commercial vessel east of Singapore early Monday morning local time, the Navy said.
There were 10 sailors missing and five injured, the Navy said.
The collision with the merchant ship Alnic MC occurred east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore at 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time, as the McCain was on its way for a routine port visit in Singapore, the Navy said.

Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence and the third time is enemy action.
0630 Japan Standard Time, Singapore time is one hour earlier. The collision took place about 05:30 Singapore time. Sunrise was around 7 am Singapore time. That means the collision was about an hour and a half before sunrise.

Oh, bad MoJo areas.
Glad U back safe.
Second incident in a couple of months under highly suspicious circumstances. Both ships were in the South China Sea exerting freedom of navigation earlier. After the Fitzgerald, the vigilance level was bound to be increased dramatically. It just seems inexplicable that CIC, OOD, JOOD, and watch stations could not detect and prevent this.
To me this indicates one of three scenarios:
1. Gross incompetence requiring heads to roll at the Admiral level.
2.Serious maintenance issues that were not properly addressed by the ship’s crew (see #1 above).
3. A weapon from a foreign source rendering navigation equipment inoperable or ineffective.
If the answer is #3 worry for your country and expect the Navy to cover it up and find the ship’s command structure responsible. After reading similar “enemy” weapons stories in the Fitzgerald case, I thought it was just tin foil hat stuff. After this one, I’m not so sure.

The first link is part of the Obama Navy.
Thanks, and same to you.
John McCain Crashing ships as well as aircraft, Elections, and political parties.
The NAVY really should avoid association with that man.
But seriously this is the 2nd Guided Missile destroy to crash with a East Asian Tanker in the last year. Are our Navy Captains Incompetent or are the Tanker Auto Pilots somehow aiming for them?
I don't trust the military leadership in this country...
get rid of the pensions and perhaps these light in the loafer types would move on into other careers....we're making it too easy for muddlers to hang on....
Something as simple as looking through a pair of binoculars should have warned them.
Islamics in the crew?
Puerto Ricans.
You had me at gross incompetence
Nope. From the Wikipedia:
This warship is named after John S. McCain, Sr., and John S. McCain, Jr., both Admirals in the United States Navy. John S. McCain, Sr., commanded the aircraft carrier USS Ranger, and acted as commander of the Fast Carrier Task Force during the latter stages of World War II. John S. McCain, Jr., commanded the U.S. Navy submarines USS Gunnel and USS Dentuda during World War II. Subsequently, he held a number of posts, rising to Commander-in-Chief of the United States Pacific Command before retiring in 1972. These men were the grandfather and father of Senator John S. McCain III.[2]
With the Fitzgerald there were some bizarre direction changes just prior to collision. Perhaps there was some miscalculation during ‘the chase’. I have no idea if this is true. Just a layman’s speculation on my part. But the fact that both collisions occurred in a ‘hot spot’ of the world makes me wonder if both collisions were specifically related to the circumstances of their mission, which would make it likely that not all of the facts are going to be shared with the general public.
Thanks. You have a valid point there.
Still, the watch should have seen the tanker.
Collision happened when it was still dark.
Yes they should have. Not having heard anything to the contrary, I would assume that the tanker was displaying the required navigational lights.
Plus women on the boats.
Nobody is thinking about the mission, they are thinking about other things.
Hell they probably have an OB ward on some of the larger vessels to handle the prenatal checks and deliveries.
It's ridiculous.
[[I hate to say it, but what can you expect from a ship named after that serial, accident-prone loser?]]
It was not named after Senator John McCain . It was named after his grandfather and his father , Admiral John McCain Sr and Admiral John McCain Jr .
Thanks. Problem is I’m on a laptop, so if it’s a mouse type issue I don’t know what I can do (it’s built in). Maybe re-install the drivers.... or get an external mouse and try that??
