A Navy guided-missile destroyer, the USS John S. McCain, collided with a commercial vessel east of Singapore early Monday morning local time, the Navy said.
There were 10 sailors missing and five injured, the Navy said.
The collision with the merchant ship Alnic MC occurred east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore at 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time, as the McCain was on its way for a routine port visit in Singapore, the Navy said.

Thanks for the info. The LSM will have to look for another angle of spin, I guess.
Also a bulbous prow for major below the waterline damage.
These terms refer to the qualification and experience level of merchant sailors. An Able Bodied Seaman has at least two years sea experience and is qualified as helmsman, lookout etc. An Ordinary seaman has only a few months experience at sea and is not qualified for those watches. These are not terms used in the U.S. Navy.
The Obamanators care about semenship not seamanship.
After all their years in the Navy, neither the CO, XO or Chief of the Boat have any valor medals or awards.
Oh, well.
The ship is named after McCain’s father and grandfather who were Navy Admirals.
Thanks.
But as an aside, what sane man wants to land on a carrier deck, at night, in weather, in an A/C from the lowest bidder?

Are you saying the F-18 is not a good plane? I suppose your “A/C” means air craft.
Not NBC LOL!
They’re running with it. Haven’t corrected their article.

Sounds more like the ChiComs have found a way to compromise our navys sensors so that they can use the ancient tactic of ramming.
I read somewhere that the ChiComs have umteen thousand spys here. Plus so many of our elected and business leaders are quite willing to sell them our technology.
Its 10 missing and 5 injured. The injuries are not life threatening.
Probably a great plane.
Want to be in the back of one landing at night on a carrier, in weather, with Kara Hultgreen up front?
Give me my XM177E2, three hots and a cot.
:)
Thanx.
I had a 14’ Boston Whaler. Does that qualify for anything?

Very interesting quotes here from former Navy warship CO.
Worth reading.
I was a Grunt. I don’t understand.
WTF!!!
Binoculars dont get hacked. Underway in such waters you would think a warship, with a crew of hundreds, would have lookouts as SOP.
A warship should not be vulnerable to deliberate ramming by a merchant vessel. It is too easy to evade, if it is taking reasonable precautions.
And its course and schedule cannot be easily predicted such that it can be set up by a few deliberately planned ramming vessels - each of these would be passing hundreds of merchant vessels.
XM177E2: Best ‘nam-era CAR-15 derivative there ever way. Plus, for some reason, it sounded mike a .50 M2 Browning. Make the Slopes put their heads down in an ambush.
Three hots: Three hot or otherwise good meals
A cot: Somewhere other then the ground to sleep.
All above only found together in a Base Camp, when back in for a few days of sleep and sanity.
