I will dispense for now from discussion of the moral character of the president's Charlottesville statements. Whether he intended to or not, what he communicated caused racists to rejoice, minorities to weep, and the vast heart of America to mourn. His apologists strain to explain that he didn't mean what we heard. But what we heard is now the reality, and unless it is addressed by the president as such, with unprecedented candor and strength, there may commence an unraveling of our national fabric. The leaders of our branches of military service have spoken immediately and forcefully, repudiating the implications of the president's words. Why? In part because the morale and commitment of our forces--made up and sustained by men and women of all races--could be in the balance. Our allies around the world are stunned and our enemies celebrate; America's ability to help secure a peaceful and prosperous world is diminished. And who would want to come to the aid of a country they perceive as racist if ever the need were to arise, as it did after 9/11?
In homes across the nation, children are asking their parents what this means. Jews, blacks, Hispanics, Muslims are as much a part of America as whites and Protestants. But today they wonder. Where might this lead? To bitterness and tears, or perhaps to anger and violence?
The potential consequences are severe in the extreme. Accordingly, the president must take remedial action in the extreme. He should address the American people, acknowledge that he was wrong, apologize. State forcefully and unequivocally that racists are 100% to blame for the murder and violence in Charlottesville. Testify that there is no conceivable comparison or moral equivalency between the Nazis--who brutally murdered millions of Jews and who hundreds of thousands of Americans gave their lives to defeat--and the counter-protestors who were outraged to see fools parading the Nazi flag, Nazi armband and Nazi salute. And once and for all, he must definitively repudiate the support of David Duke and his ilk and call for every American to banish racists and haters from any and every association. This is a defining moment for President Trump. But much more than that, it is a moment that will define America in the hearts of our children. They are watching, our soldiers are watching, the world is watching. Mr. President, act now for the good of the country.
I campaigned for him and McCain. Both let me down then and have done it again this year.
It is one thing to be a RINO coward and cover out of fear but quite another thing to lie about what Trump said. Romney once again shows he’s a liar.
Here is one comment.
“Blacks who were never Slaves fighting Whites who were never Nazis over a Statue erected by Democrats, and it’s all Trump’s fault?”
It’s amazing how out of touch Romney is!
Who are his advisers?
There was a National Review that in a tongue-in-cheek manner explained Romney’s weird mannerisms was do to he fact he was an alien (The interplanetary kind!) who liked earthlings and was here to help! Now I think the article was dead on accurate! He is an alien and not here to help. He is really just an annoying interplanetary tourist!
Twist in the wind, Mitt.
I wish Holyfield had boxed for real in their charity match.
That’s when I knew romney was either insane or a publicity tramp.
I disagree with the characterization in the headline.
Romney wasn’t trying to explain himself. He was piling on, demanding that Trump issue a formal apology. Romney hasn’t backtracked in the least from his unequivocal support for Antifa. Neither has McCain. Or Ryan. Or Rubio. Or McConnell. Or any of them.
I’m tired of being played for a fool by Republicans. They are just as much the enemy of the people as any democrat is. They’re maybe even worse because they tell us they are on or side before betraying us every single time. I’ll stick with my state and local Republicans, but I’ll not support the national Republican party in any way any more.
Mitt is a piece of ___(rhymes with mitt)
"Jackwagon"
Obviously Romney thought one of his advisors told him not to miss this opportunity to post something on social media and get his name in lights...when the actual message was don’t do anything stupid on social media and get lit up.
I was a big Mitt supporter. Even got censored on FR. Mitt, apparently someone has hit you with a stupid stick. I still think you are a good man but you have gone really stupid.
To imagine I once had a Romney/Ryan yard sign? I’m now repulsed by both of these asshats. God has a way of sorting things out. As much as I despised Obammy, I’m not sure these two would have been any better.
Romney reminds me of a slick car salesman.
The Harvard intern that makes his Facebook posts must be shocked.
Yes, he really is.
Romney is a jackass..he made that clear as day when he allowed Candy Crowley to run all over him and he did NOTHING to stop her..Romney kissing liberal ass just shows Romney’s true colors
LOL, take that Romney...
Did anyone see that poll, “Would you vote for Michelle Obama for president?”
Let me see, Trump is unqualified with his record, but Michelle Obama is fully qualified with hers?
People are just nuts these days.
