Orwell was a seer, I never thought I would live to see this.

I keep seeing this stated. I think people forget that Orwell was actively involved with the Left for most of his early life. He didn't describe these types of things in "1984" and "Animal Farm" because he dreamed them or saw the future - he watched the Left do this right in front of his eyes. In fact, Orwell clearly stated that he abandoned the Left precisely because of stuff like this (what term did they use for 'Orwellian' before Orwell?)
