Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer said in a statement that whether the monuments go to museums, cemeteries or elsewhere, "it is clear that they no longer can be celebrated in shared civic areas, like Charlottesville's Downtown Mall."

Don’t tell me you buy this crap.
Really? You have to ask me that? I’m just showing the hole they’re digging for themselves. They truly think they’ve “got” Trump this time on this Charlottesville thing. But remember, they thought they had him with Pussygate and his 2005 tax returns and blah, blah, blah.
But Signer will never be impeached for helping to foment the violence in town by his actions (up to and including ordering the police to stand down), oh no.
Be cheaper, and easier, to remove the mayor.
Charlottesville Was Inside Job to Ignite Race War:

We [Charlotesville police] were ordered to bring the rival groups together. As soon as they were in contact with each other, we were told to stand down. It was outrageous. We werent allowed to arrest anyone without asking the mayor first. We werent even allowed to stop the driver as he sped away.
The event was being set up as far back as at least May and it went like clockwork.
It is clear, because the left is a bunch of violent thugs, and the mayor has no idea how to allow his police officers to do their job and stop thuggery.

He should be in jail for helping to incite a riot.
You are on it!
They will not stop there. This whole movement is to erase everything to do with evil whitey.
Why Mr. Mayor? Why cannot the proud history of the Old Dominion be celebrated in the neighborhood neighborhood of Thomas Jefferson. If you cannot celebrate Virginia's proud heritage by the campus of the University Jefferson founded, can you allow that University to continue? As the President inquired, where does this lunacy end?
People need to recognize what is really in play here!
I predict that we well see attempts to torch Monticello and Mount Vernon by the end of the year. May very well be successful as first responders may not respond due to the threats of the mobs that will be on site if this occurs.
Democrats are pure evil, but people like that didn't used to be taken seriously . . . outside comic books.
Well said. Visiting a civil war memorial is a solemn moment. It’s a time to recall the horrors of war and a horrible time in our country’s history. Taking them down, which many Freepers support, is really an extension of the Snowflake movement.
As a reader of Sir Walter Scott, I also vividly recall some of his Prefaces, Forwards or postscripts, where he discusses his historic research into original materials. In one such, unfortunately I do not recall with which novel the discussion appeared, he discusses seeking original French manuscripts--the one of a kind, hand lettered variety--in great houses that escaped the hate set fires, which destroyed many such irreplaceable clues into that country's history.
Those who would destroy the memories of a people's achievements, their purpose & struggles, take hate driven loathsomeness to a particularly vile level.
That the mob mentality behind this vicious intention is almost totally ignorant of the actual histories involved--being consumed by hatred for false images, instilled by demagogues with axes to grind, certainly does not make the ensuing atrocities any more acceptable.
That this contemporary re-visitation of a slavery debate, which basically ended 152 years ago, shows a total lack of appreciation of the fact that in all the Western lands where there were still retentions of the feudal system, the Old South was almost certainly the most humane, is further evidence that our present Jacobins are truly out-of-touch with the history they seek to erase.
Finally, consider Booker T. Washington (who was born a slave's') appeal to his White neighbors, which reflects a very very different picture of Southern race relations from that embraced by the American Jacobins of 2017:
