Asked about players who did not stand for the national anthem before preseason games, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday that while the playing of the anthem is a special moment to him, we also have to understand the other side.
Goodell made the comments at University of Phoenix Stadium during a 45-minute question-and-answer period with Arizona Cardinals club seat holders. One season ticket-holder, Bruce Olson, asked the commissioner whether players were going to continue to protest during the anthem and if anything could be done about it.
Its one of those things where I think we have to understand that there are people that have different viewpoints, Goodell said. The national anthem is a special moment to me. Its a point of pride. But we also have to understand the other side, that people do have rights and we want to respect those.
Thats the answer thats getting all the coverage, but supposedly there was a follow-up question (which I still cant find a video for) where he modified his response, saying that while he respects the rights of the players to protest, theres a time and a place for it. It seemed to be an indication that on the field right before a game starts was not that time or place.
Perhaps hell prove me wrong, but at this point Im convinced that this is a beast that Roger Goodell simply doesnt want to wrestle with. Hell offer his take on it, but leave the individual teams hanging in terms of what they should do. And most of them will fear the backlash if they clamp down on the protests, so the sport will suffer further declines in viewership as fans grow increasingly annoyed over the politicization of the greatest sport on Earth.

WOW, that is a fabulous letter!!! It needs to be circulated all over!!!
Boycotting again this year
That appears to have been Goodell’s intention from the start. The lefties have wanted to kill the NFL for years.
The Patriots have alpha white men culture. Not gonna fly with guys like Gronk, Brady, Edelman and company.
Oops, did not catch that.
I think they have already stopped showing it on TV, but the photos keep getting out. I don’t think the NFL will let this go on all season like they did last year.
Go to The Hall of Fame anyway-——look at artifacts and pictures of the great days of football——before this insanity started.
Don’t deprive your son and yourself of that.
.
The only game I watched last year was the Superbowl, and I am glad that I did, because seeing the Pats win was like pouring salt in everyone’s Trump inflicted bobo’s :D
All other games I did not watch, including all of the Saints, which is my team, but didn’t miss much there since they suck.
This years all games are off unless the Pats go to the Bowl again, then I’ll watch it.
Curious what the meaning is with your comment, expound please and enlighten me.
Roger Goodell was friend’s with Kraft, and since he has become commissioner, he primarily works for Kraft. Does his bidding.
Nothing tough about being a coward, it’s the easiest path to take.
I personally am going to lmao when these over paid j**offs are out of a job making millions, and then the howls of racism will begin (or continue) all over.
You’ll notice that none of the Patriots have or will do it. Coach Bill has ruled. Woe be unto any player who tries this Kaepernick crap.
IMO this is being done deliberately.
The globalist elite bored billionaires can't have the workers watching violent American football. They (our "betters") have already ruled that we are to join the rest of the world in its worship of soccer.
Is there a better way to turn people off of the NFL than players protesting our national anthem ?
Once people lose interest in your product, there is no real way to get them back.
It's unimaginable that the Commissioner has no idea that some players are ruining the branding of the league. If he's allowing it, he's doing it for a reason.
