Several players plan protests following violence in Charlottesville Colin Kaepernick still without a team after protest last season Bennett says protest is not a sign of disrespect for military
The day after Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat out the national anthem, his former team-mate Michael Bennett has followed his lead.
The Seattle Seahawks defensive end, who is known for his strong views, sat with a towel draped over his head during the anthem before Sundays game against the Los Chargers. Bennett said he plans to continue the protest for the rest of the season, and his stance was influenced by the far-right violence in Charlottesville over the weekend. Colin Kaepernick attracted attention when he chose to kneel for the anthem last season as a protest at racial injustice in the United States.
The last week, with everything thats been going on in the last couple monthsespecially after the last couple days seeing everything in [Charlottesville] Virginia ... [I] just wanted to be able to continue to use my platform to be able to speak on injustice, Bennett said after Sundays game.
So long NFL:
- Concussion news
- gratuitous insults to our flag, our anthem, our country, and our ancestors
- spoiled rich players acting like brats over little things
- violent crimes by players
This rude protest will be the final death knell of the NFL. Good riddance.
“DVR. Fast forward through the onfield celebrations, announcer palaver, and bombastic commercials. Probably take about an hour to watch :)”
Actually, I believe there’s less than 15 minutes of ACTUAL football play time, this is, the sum of times from when the ball is snapped until the play is whistled dead.
given the lavish displays of patriotism towards the end of last season, the playoffs and this pre-season, I strongly suspect that no cameras from any network will be showing any “protesting” players, but will instead show tight close-ups of players standing in the front row with their hands over their hearts.
I believe both the NFL and the networks have figured out that emphasizing the tiny minority of anti-American players has cost all of them REALLY big bucks and don’t want to perpetuate that trend.
Once they are no longer on camera, they’ll probably stop doing it, or at the very least no one will give a crap.
In the age of universal video, from every direction, there will be film at eleven.....................
“In the age of universal video, from every direction, there will be film at eleven”
i think even that will be minimized. My prediction is that ABC/Disney/ESPN and other networks with NFL contracts will minimize (possibly down to zero) “protest” talk on their blather shows as well as their local network affiliate news shows. BIG money is at stake for everyone involved and I really don’t think they want to accelerate the trend of 8% annual drop off in viewership.
It will be recorded by attendees and will be posted on Youtube and will be celebrated by every left-wing nut group in the world..........................
Monkey see. Monkey do. Goes to show the low I.Q.
“It will be recorded by attendees and will be posted on Youtube and will be celebrated by every left-wing nut group in the world”
no doubt. but it won’t be seen by NFL football fans. big difference between showing it live on TV before the game starts where millions of NFL fans are forced to watch it and on youtube et. al. where NFL fans won’t bother to go look.
Try getting rid of all football for a while...it will free you up from all the ridiculous braggadocio..clueless coaches..assistants..broken bodies and sideline bimbos..not to mention endless commercials. Think about it...all that thought..work...time...money...health..just to move a ball a certain distance one way while someone else tries to stop you.
Bennett is an attention whore with a huge mouth and not very much talent to back it up with. I’ve been a Seahawks fan since their beginning, but the players starting about 10 years ago have really degraded the NFL.
They are the products of their university indoctrination by their prog professors..............if they even bothered to go to class..................
ESPN gave this guy Bennett all the time in the world last night to express his reasons for sitting. He started out by saying he loves our military, he has relatives in the military, it’s about Charlottesville, etc., etc.
I wasn’t able to follow it, probably because I didn’t care enough to pay much attention to him.
After he was done, the ESPN guy was gushing with admiration, saying it was eloquent, heartfelt, and Bennett is all about love, not hate.
It was more than enough to convince me nothing has changed for the better at ESPN or in the NFL.
Yep, I’ve lost all interest as well and dang it, I enjoyed years of being in a football pool, even won a bunch of times. Lil bobby can go suck an egg, I’d love to rip that hair piece off his fat head.
Go to Hell, NFL!
Yes.
NFL has exactly one choice: terminate the contracts of these miserable bastards. Anything else, and I'll find something else to do.
I need more range time.
For example.
Major college and NFL football have both been enormously successful, making billionaires out of a relative handful of people, by creating an illusion which has been congenial for the average white sports fan.
When that illusion is shattered - and shattered it will be - the collapse of the whole enterprise will be as sudden as it is stunning.
A Pac-12 QB (I think it was UCLA) recently said, “OK, raise the eligibility SAT score to the average for entering students. Let’s see how good Alabama is then”.
Crimethink.
He’s gotta point.
How many colleges and universities just accept star athletes on their ball (whatever kind) abilities and academics be damned?...................
Don’t forget the taxpayer dollars used to buy the stadium, that maybe the key.
Probably won’t, but if this BS starts
in NASCAR....I’m selling my TV...
I’ve been a Raider fan since 1964.
Not anymore.
