6.5 Million Americans Paid a Fine Rather than sign up for Obamacare Coverage
Ballotpedia The Encyclopedia of American Politics ^ | August 9, 2017 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 08/09/2017 3:12:12 PM PDT by CitizenBob

The individual healthcare mandate requires every American to buy health insurance or pay a fine. In 2016, 6.5 million Americans chose to pay the fine rather than sign up for insurance on the Obamacare exchanges...

In addition to those who pay the fine rather than buy the mandated levels of insurance, 15 million people would drop their Obamacare coverage if it were legal to do so.

This does not necessarily mean that these individuals want to go without insurance. Obamacare requires every insurance policy to cover a set of what it defines as Essential Health Benefits.[2] The more benefits that a plan covers, the more expensive it is. Some people might prefer to buy less comprehensive insurance at a lower cost. For example, one option might be to buy insurance only for major healthcare costs such as surgeries or hospitalizations.

Since most Americans receive health insurance from their employer, the rising cost of healthcare is a key factor holding down wage growth. If the cost of benefits were the same today as a generation ago, the average pay for full-time workers would be more than $3,300 higher annually. Some people might prefer a bigger paycheck and less comprehensive coverage.

He notes that “only about 40 percent of those eligible for subsidies have signed up for coverage. In what other business or government program would such a dismal acceptance by those it was targeted to serve be considered a success?”[1]

You sound just like me when I get on my rant about doctors and their propensity to push drugs. 25 years ago my Dr. said my Cholesterol was too high and I needed to take a drug to lower it. I refused and promised him I would exercise and diet so it would go down. After 6 mo. of diet & exercise & a lot weight loss he tested me again.

When he got the results he couldn’t believe that my Cholesterol had gone up. He said the only thing he could think was that it was genetic. He kept insisting that I was going to stroke out. I kept on refusing drugs. The more I read about Statins, the more I was convinced they were not a good thing.

I’ve known a lot of people who took them who went on to become very unhealthy due to liver, kidney and muscle problems. I’m now 83 and healthy. I walked two miles on Mon. and two miles on Tues, and will walk it again tomorrow & Fri.

Now when you read about statins you find that the science is not following what the drs are telling us. But my Dr. still wants me to take them because I’m going to “stroke out”. I laugh at him and tell him that at 83 it’s expected that I might do just that.

But your first mistake was that liberals would listen to fact and reason. They seem to have a strong sense of ill-logical thinking.

In other words, 21.5 million Americans losing Obamacare insurance would be an improvement, not a reason to keep that harmful socialist law. We need a clean Obamacare repeal, nothing more.

Yep - ran into an old friend at Walmart the other day and his wife has MS and they are paying their own way because total income is under $45K and Obamacare for them is $1400/month with a $5800 initial co-pay before the insurance actually pays anything. The initial $23K for Obamacare is more than half of their gross income....

They are the brainworks of the farm.

And some did neither. If you are getting a tax ‘refund’ you are paying too much in. Don’t give the government an interest free loan.”””

YOU are correct......

IF you owe a small amount when you file your taxes-—an IDENTITY THIEF CAN NOT steal your refund by filing a bogus return wih your name & their address.......

Don’t know why all the “LIFELOCK” ads don’t include that tidbit.

As approved by the infinite wisdom of the Supreme Court of the USA!

I would still like to know what specific “leverage” was used or intelligence info on Chief Justice Roberts that Obama admin obtained that resulted in Roberts changing his opinion to rule ACA was constitutional - mandates, “Penalties” or “Taxes et al?

It’s unbelievable isn’t it, and is proof positive to me how we could go towards a totalitarian dictatorship overnight, all that’s needed is a judge to declare it so. I mean what’s the difference between that and a judge mandating the people - just because they exist- must buy a companies product or be punished? This is el primo reason why we have the 2nd amendment and thank God Hillary lost because we would have lost that

The more I read about Statins, the more I was convinced they were not a good thing.

You are a smart lady. I am also a refusenik because I simply tell the family sawbones "sounds like the side effects are worse than what it is trying to cure." I am convinced that a Big Pharma/Big Government alliance wants us hooked on drugs because it is profitable and because a drunk/stoned/dependent population is easier to control.
