McConnell: We'll start Obamacare repeal on day one (December 6,2016)
The Hill ^ | December 6,2016 | Alexander Bolton

Posted on 08/09/2017 2:22:31 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) says legislation repealing the Affordable Care Act will be the first order of business in the new Congress.

McConnell announced the agenda Tuesday, after meeting with Vice President-elect Mike Pence and Senate GOP colleagues over lunch.

"When we come back Jan. 3 we'll be moving to the ObamaCare replacement resolution, the ObamaCare repeal resolution will be the first item up in the New Year," McConnell said, referring to repeal legislation that is expected to pass with a simple majority vote under special budgetary rules.

The legislation is expected to track closely to similar legislation the GOP-controlled Congress passed at the end of 2015 but which President Obama vetoed.

There is a dispute between GOP Senate and House conservatives whether the repeal of the law should be phased in over three years — a timeline senators favor — or more quickly than that.

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), a member of McConnell's leadership team, said Republicans will consider an array of measures to replace President Obama's signature healthcare law.

"There's also going to be an important discussion about all the alternatives that were there in 2009 and 2010 that the administration and particularly the president constantly said, ‘There were no other ideas.’ There were lots of other ideas. This gives us a chance to revisit those ideas," Blunt said.

One proposal favored by Republicans would be to allow insurance companies to sell plans across state lines. Another would give people incentives to create health savings accounts, something GOP policymakers hope may increase competition among providers and lower costs.

McConnell said Republicans spent Tuesday’s lunch “discussing a variety of different issues with” Pence and said he expects to meet regularly with him next year.

It still makes me angry that the GOP was stupid enough to pick Juan McLame as its presidential candidate, without really any contest or debate. His craziness and lack of loyalty to anything were crystal clear even back then. But boy did I catch heat on FR by saying he was poisonous and would stab us in the back. Which he basically did by stopping campaigning before the election.

The only reason they are there is to enrich themselves. They care nothing about this country or the taxpaying citizens. Amazing that they all become millionaires.

This, after 7 YEARS of Republicans promising “repeal and replace” — yet weasels like McConnell want to pretend that President Trump is raising “expectations” too high???????

He can’t legislate his way out of a soggy wet paper bag....

Sadly, Trump has let them get away with it.

The big wrong move he made was in listening to Jivanka rather than, indeed, the likes of Roger Stone when he started his hiring in the WH with chief of staff. Jivanka thought they could get along with the Establishment and so pushed for Priebus. Priebus brought in a GOPe/Never Trump type to run the personnel office—and then made sure of two things 1) that new Trump hires would be named as slowly as possible, and 2) that new Trump hires be guaranteed not to be pro-Trump or pro-his agenda, but uniparty Democrats or GOPe traitors.

Then Priebus convinced Trump to leave the legislating to the Pence/Ryan/Priebus triumvirate that, what do you know, somehow just hasn’t managed to get anything passed.

So Trump finally removed Priebus—but yikes, he put in one of his “generals”, of the McMaster/Mattis/Kelly trio, as his new chief of staff. Now the noose is tightening around him and though he may enjoy the absence of the Priebus-allowed chaos, the silencing of conservative information and voices around him is even more foreboding.

With the next senate races in 2018, several Democrats could lose their seats along with a RINO or two.

At risk right now:

Bill Nelson (D-Fla.)
Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.)
Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.)
Jon Tester (D-Mont.)
Dean Heller (R-Nev.)
Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.)
Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio)
Bob Casey (D-Pa.)
Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.)
Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.)

He sounds like an amateur. I can't find my list but I kept track of Ryan's budget promises starting October before he became Speaker. I did A LOT of work travel in the car during that time and heard him frequently on any talk radio that would have him. It was something like this

Oct: We'll do a real budget as soon as I become speaker and get it done this year before Boener's continuing resolution expires

Dec: We didn't have time so we'll do a 3 month omnicrap budget and get on the replacement as soon as we return

Jan: We're on it. We'll have a great budget before the omnicrap expires

March: Since it wasn't done right last year we didn't have time to replace the omnicrap so we'll let it continue this year but the right committees will start work on the next budget very soon.

April: The committees will do a great budget this year

May-August: <mostly crickets> [some comments about progress mid-June and about the August break in July if I remember]

September: we're working on a great budget

October: close but not done so here's a continuing resolution

December: here's another omnicrap budget. [didn't even pretend they'd do better next year]

They DO think voters are stupid. And I'm afraid they're right though Trump's win gives some hope.

Totally agree. I’m fed up! How do all these congress critters end up so mega wealthy? By screwing us, that’s how! Term limits would go a long way in ending this corruption. Serving us in Congress should be just that. Go in and do what you can for your constituents for a time and get the hell out before you are entrenched and corrupted. It has to not be a career!

The biggest problem Mitch McConnell has is the fact that Republicans ALONE have this problem.

The Democrats had no problem accomplishing great harm to our limited form of government. But Mitchell...just can’t seem to get off his ass and do what needs to be done.
