North Korea has successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles, crossing a key threshold on the path to becoming a full-fledged nuclear power, U.S. intelligence officials have concluded in a confidential assessment.
The new analysis completed last month by the Defense Intelligence Agency comes on the heels of another intelligence assessment that sharply raises the official estimate for the total number of bombs in the communist countrys atomic arsenal. The U.S. calculated last month that up to 60 nuclear weapons are now controlled by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Some independent experts believe the number of bombs is much smaller.
The findings are likely to deepen concerns about an evolving North Korean military threat that appears to be advancing far more rapidly than many experts had predicted. U.S. officials last month concluded that Pyongyang is also outpacing expectations in its effort to build an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking cities on the American mainland.

Since the knell analysts don’t understand or abide by “CONFIDENTIAL!” Make them all “WALK THR PLANK”!
I’m sure they already have.
8 LONG years.
They did not do this without outside help and what we are seeing is probably only the tip of the iceberg on their tech advancements
All bets are off on deployment time lines and weapon capabilities
North Korea and Iran are now emerging nuclear powers who only lack weapon hardware in inventory and the 400 billion Obama gave them is rapidly being converted to operational weapons
Eisenhower’s parting words: Beware the Military-Industrial Complex......................
A better question is why does WaPo and the people who run it want war?
Also, it seems quite likely that The NORKs will wreck South Korea before the NORKs can be effectively extinguished.
South Korea has a higher GDP than Russia.
“would fire one off at HI and turn that place into glass first thing”
How many nuclear explosions do you estimate would be required to “turn Hawaii into glass”?
And “first thing”? More like “last thing”, huh?
“A bomb that destroys New York City”
What sort of a bomb do you envision that could do that?
And what do you think would happen next?
It’s very concerning to me that the Trump-hating neocons have their panties in a wad about the DPRK and their nuclear capability.
It’s almost as if they want to spook Trump into an attack that would ignite a conventional war on the Korean peninsula which would kill hundreds of thousands of Koreans and likely lead to DPRK conquest of South Korea, to what end?
If Kim wants to deliver a uranium or plutonium weapon to a US target, that would be a very, very poor decision, one which I believe he would be most unlikely to make. And, of course, also the last decision he would make.
Much, much better to sit and wait. We risk one big mess. Kim risks everything. Your move, comrade.
Thanks Bill.

The modern equivalent of 100 Pershing II’s, stationed in SKorea and Japan would likely solve this problem.
Though the hour is getting late.
Those missiles would have the range to hit Beijing, and at Mach VII, they could get there very, very quickly. CEP is about 100ft/30 meters.
And they should be owned by SKorea and Japan. Not the US.
China would solve the Norklandia problem within a week of the first squadron being deployed.

Post on Twitter:
Dear Mr. Kim:
We are sending you a nuclear device so that your people will know what it’s affects are.
We know you are a very impatient person, so we are sending it special delivery. It should arrive in Pyongyanf in approx. 16 minutes. Enjoy!
Singed,
Donald J. Trump
Well then.. Mission accomplished by the Dems.
GW Bush is at least as responsible as Clinton.
But it’s Obama that allowed the program to mature and weaponize.
Although I’m sure NK is speeding ahead with their nuke program, I have zero trust in anything published by so-called mainstream media organs like WaPo. That’s one of the fundamental problems with their blatant political bias...makes it impossible to trust anything they promulgate.
This is a direct failure of liberal appeasing.
Now We have no choice, war is inevitable.
Pray for all those who will go into harms way.
I hate that bitch.
Hell, I want a war.
I want a war to ensure Norklandia AND Iran never have nukes capable of hitting the US. Or, to eliminate those they have.
And I would be happy to volunteer if Uncle Sam will still have me.
Unlike those who fear the confrontation.
