Sounds to me as if they had it setup in a location to listen or spoof another mobile enabled server, or act as a repeater/ftp server to lob/route conversations offsite to a collection server for classification and cataloging

Then if need be anyone who knew it was there could just stroll up, remove it and act like no big thing. I have been to that building and there is a lot going on and people to and fro

Could even be the old bag switch model with a duplicate laptop to DWS, only the serial number would be different but to the unpracticed/disinterested eye it would be “hers” Hence her whining about “her” laptop...
