Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said on Sunday that the special counsel investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election needs permission from the Department of Justice to expand his investigation if he finds evidence of an unrelated crime.
In an interview with Fox News Sunday, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russia's role in the 2016 campaign and President Donald Trump's campaign's potential ties to Russia was "not a fishing expedition."
"If he finds evidence of a crime that is within the scope of what Director Mueller and I have agreed is the appropriate scope of this investigation, then he can," Rosenstein said. "If it's something outside that scope he needs to come to the acting attorney general, at this time me, for permission to expand his investigation."

They may well be looking into the Russian influence and the Dems When all the lawyers on the case are Democrats?
A stretch here, but perhaps the way to reclaim the demoncrat base is to expose and prosecute some of the worst offenders?

Rosenstein has hardly any fans here on FreeRepublic, but I've noticed that over the last 2-3 months he has dropped some very important hints about what Mueller is -- and isn't -- doing.
Everything I've seen tells me: (1) Rosenstein is playing this straight as an arrow, and (2) we may be in for a big surprise (in a good way) when the whole thing is done.

RosenKrantz needs to stipulate that he mistakenly gave the gitgo to a counterintelligence op NOT a Criminal one.
What was the crime involved and were is the substantiation for RosenKrantz’ dirtyy deed?

Of all the people Rosenstein could have chosen as the Special Council, he chooses Comey’s BFF.
What are the odds?
Rosenstein is part of the Swamp....and Sessions just appointed him to investigate the leaks.

When Judge Ken Starr was hired as Special Prosecutor his charter was to investigate the Whitewater Land Development project in Arkansas. Then Starr asked Attorney General Janet Reno for permission to expand his authority to the Vince Foster suicide. Then Starr asked permission to expand again to the Monica Lewinsky affair. Clinton was ultimately impeached by the House of Representatives for perjury and obstruction of justice related to Monica Lewinsky.

RosenKrantz is NOT a straight arrow as the SC law/rules don’t allow an expandable SC fishing expedition starting with suspected counterintelligence issues.

"If he finds evidence of a crime within the scope . . . "
He thus admits that it IS a fishing expedition, despite his lies to the contrary. Normally, an investigation begins after a known crime has been committed. Maybe we should set up a special prosecutor for Rosenstein and see if we can find anything on HIM. Fair enough?
To: Paladin2
OK. Get back to me when that is relevant to anything here.

Don't fall for this nonsense, folks. Rosenstein is either a dope or a very dishonest swamp creature.

I believe those facts to be true.
I’ve never seen anything to the contrary.

Expand it from Russia to what? China?
If Mueller is going to investigate the world why do we need the CIA?

Everything I've seen tells me: (1) Rosenstein is playing this straight as an arrow...The following Rosenstein remark tells me that Rosenstein is corrupt.
"If he finds evidence of a crime that is within the scope of what Director Mueller and I have agreed is the appropriate scope of this investigation, then he can,...if it's something outside that scope he needs to come to the acting attorney general, at this time me, for permission to expand his investigation."

Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny dropped by last night for dinner.
It's not a fishing expedition. It's an all-out coup.

Bottom line is they will concoct something to hang Trump with.
The got all the power, they outnumber Trump and the people who support don’t matter because they are in the 30 percentile, the Trump haters are in the upper 50 percentile. It’s all in the swamps favor.

I think rosenstein is lying and that it is a fishing expedition. If it turns out that he was lying then I can see a rather nasty citizens arrest taking place.
