Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Republican candidates with their eyes on a White House run may be seriously considering the prospect of challenging President Donald Trump in 2020 because they "see weakness," The Hill reported Saturday.
"They see weakness in this president," McCain told The New York Times. "Look, it's not a nice business we're in."
The Times reported Saturday that Republican Sens. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Ben Sasse of Nebraska, GOP Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and even Vice President Mike Pence could be laying the groundwork for a White House run in 2020.
McCain hasn't been shy about criticizing the president and has broken ranks with Trump as well as fellow Republicans on key issues. Most recently, he voted against the Senate GOP's "skinny" Obamacare repeal bill and on Thursday lambasted the president over his handling of the war in Afghanistan.

Don’t forget Rubio, he was helping them arm jihadists, too.
The guy has cancer and Trump in his head 24/7. Plus he has Irish Alzheimer he can only remember the slights. The guy is in his own little hell.
The VC is strong with this one ...
I guess the Attention Whore from Arizona was feeling a little neglected since all the publicity surrounding his return to the senate and his vote against his party and for Obamacare have died down.
Oughta curiosity..does anyone here know how long people last that have this type of brain cancer? My mother had stomach cancer and with all the radiation treatments she only last 6months..this asshole talks as if he will live for many years to come. He doesn’t act or talk like a person who has two feet in the grave already...what a nasty human being!! There will probably be good riddance parties all across this nation when he croaks! Sorry but that’s a fact!
[I urge the President to resolve the differences within his administration as soon as possible and decide on a policy and strategy that can achieve our national security interests in Afghanistan and the region,” McCain said in a statement]
“Meanwhile we in the Senate will continue to keep our thumbs up our a**es even though our thumbs are getting sore”
If you're so good, why didn't you run THIS time?
Come 2020, you better be good, you better be DAMNED good, because we aren't blaming President Trump for the lack of progress on his campaign promises, we're blaming the spineless backstabbing members of Congress of HIS party. And like as not, you who would be a challenger in 2020 are probably ONE OF THEM!
Can senators be recalled?
Trump will continue to appear weak until he locks someone up.
His plans should be to find Jesus and clear things up with Him because times a wasting for McCain.
With that form of brain cancer, average is about a year.
He turns 81 this month which makes his prognosis worse so quite possibly less than that.
McShamey is lying traitorous coward. He needs to STFU
McCain really should have come home when the Vietnamese offered to let him.
This nasty POS, McLame, needs to STFU and be censured. There’s low, really low, and below all that is McStain low.
He will never see 2020.
The kind of tumor he has, if he really has it, is very disabling and a horrible way to die.
He may be taking against President Trump now, but in just a few months, some $9.75 an hour nurses aid is going to be changing his diapers.
I hope it’s John Kasich or Rubio
From the man who puts sleeze first, self second, GOP third, and country- what country?
You, Juan, sank repeal after Trump had a clear strategy. Hell, your party had a clear strategy right up to the point where it might actually have come to fruition.
And, what national security interests in Afghanistan? Please, Juan, I want a clear list of what they are and how important you think they are - goddamned globalist neocon who with your friends have landed us in the soup of Korea and China and single-handedly destroyed the world's finest Navy to pay for it all.
Really? But he hadn’t finished selling us out then, and he is not yet done selling us out now.
6 months to a year is my guess.
My wife was an ICU nurse.
