Democrats see shades of 1998

The Republicans roared into power in 1994 with their Contract With America and were flying high until the government shutdown in 1995 when -- instead of fighting back -- they cowered under the withering assault by Clinton and his media. It was all downhill from there until the Democrats decided to run ManBearPig in 2000.

That was the first moment we realized that, as a party, the GOP really didn't believe in its own platform. They wanted to be liked - and reelected - more.
