The Senate unanimously agreed to block President Trump from making appointments during their August break amid concerns that he’ll replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions during the recess.

Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who Trump blasted on Twitter after she voted against the party on health care last month, locked in nine “pro forma” sessions over the next four weeks, The Hill reported.

RE:”How can they block him if they’re in recess? Why aren’t all Presidents blocked from making recess appointments?”

Same way they stopped Obama.

From RedState:

The Senate blocked President Trump from being able to make recess appointments on Thursday as lawmakers leave Washington for their summer break. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), doing wrap up for the entire Senate, locked in nine “pro-forma” sessions — brief meetings that normally last roughly a minute. The move, which requires the agreement of every senator, means the Senate will be in session every three business days throughout the August recess.

Unanimous vote of the Senate.

Really?

When was the vote taken?
Does anyone know?

At this point, the only hope for the American people is the total defeat and unseating of each and every member of the U.S. Senate in the next round of elections.
It is quite apparent that the “LOYALTIES” of these political hacks is not to the U.S.A, not to their voters, not to their “party”, rather it is to the “DEEP STATE”.
The peasants, sometime called American citizens are a mere aggravation they must endure.
Enough already.

Yeah, the pres can make recess appointments; all the senate is doing is not going into recess.

It’s either a recess or it isn’t. If it is, then Trump has the authority to call them back to work. If it isn’t, then they should be at work and not on a 5 week vacation.

Doesn't keep him from firing anyone he wants to and he better start soon.

I need to read the referenced articles before responding.

The Senate is going to have proforma sessions to prevent recess appointments - nothing new there.

I think they understand their offices being inundated with mail and/or postcards, to a degree.

This just proves that the eGOP is not listening to us when we elected Trump.

The eGOP is dead to me. Well, they have been since before the election when they tried to get Hillary elected.

Agree. Can’t allow an executive privilege to be challenged without a fight.

I hear you, but I would not do it over this move. Do it over health care, gun rights, taxes and judges.

How can they block him if they’re in recess?

*****************

Technically they aren’t in recess. They will continue to call the Senate to order
every three days or so. I think they have nine such calls on the schedule. They did
this with GW Bush and Obama.

The smart ass losers can’t get anything done themselves and they do not want the President to accomplish anything either, while they are off vacationing on the taxpayer’s dime.

Politically, though, doing so might create acrimonious relations between the Congress and the White House...

And this didn't?

"Politically, though, doing so might create acrimonious relations between the Congress and the White House..."

Surely you jest. As I see it, there are already acrimonious relations between Congress, as a whole, and the White House/President.

The Democrats wanted Hillary and thought they had it in the bag.

And, the Republicans, you know who they are, didn't think and hoped Trump didn't have a chance.

Why? Because they knew that if he became President, the party, graft, corruption, and all the good time would be over. That is why they are fighting him.

Actually it is constitutional. Yes the President can make recess appointments; however the Senate makes its own rules and determines when it is in recess. Remember the Senate used the same tactic to prevent Obama from making a recess supreme court appointment to replace Scalia.
