New White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly believes he has convinced President Donald Trump to abandon his pledge to construct a large and lengthy wall along the border separating the United States and Mexico, according to The New Yorker.
At a private meeting in tony Aspen, Colorado, two weeks ago, Kelly told a group of high-profile attendees that he had extensively discussed the border wall issue with Trump. Kelly believes he persuaded Trump to abandon his policy goal of erecting a lengthy wall along the 1,954-mile border which the United States shares with Mexico, according to The New Yorker.
Instead of a wall, Kelly said he suggested Trump could utilize a combination of complex monitoring equipment, continuous air surveillance and many miles of fencing can effectively secure the U.S.-Mexico border.
Such a combination of materials and surveillance would be called a barrier instead of a wall, Kelly told his audience.

"Hum, I do not have a wall around my house. I have a fence."
Hum, sucks for you.
“New White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly believes he has convinced President Donald Trump to abandon his pledge to construct a large and lengthy wall along the border separating the United States and Mexico, according to The New Yorker.”
I’m glad Kelly is no longer involved with Homeland Security. He had already revealed he was wobbly on the Nightmarers issue. Now, if this report is true, it comes out that he doesn’t want to impede the invasion of the country by Mexicans and Central Americans.
The best thing Trump could do, short of firing him, is to tell Kelly not to say anything else to anyone about immigration issues since he is so ill-informed.
Kelly, you’re fired!
That depends on the density of the minefield, and how well it is maintained.
Even at that you may need artillery support or air cover to keep Bulldozers from penetrating it the way the Iraqi minefields around Kuwait were during the ‘90 to ‘91 war .
CTH has been wrong about a number of things. Trump will keep his promise to build the wall. The MSM will try to make it seem that he didn’t by setting the bar at a 1900 mile long wall. Trump will improve border security 100 fold. Count on it.
There won't always be a Donald Trump in the White House.
This was Trumps MAIN campaign promise this story is PURE BS, there is NO WAY IN HELL Trump would break this promise NO WAY!!!!!
Anybody who thinks we are going to build a physical wall the entire length of the border isn’t living in reality....
We need lots of wall were it works and and the tech stuff where it works...
It is not enough--not nearly enough--to simply harp on the outrage of allowing millions into the States illegally; not nearly enough to simply react to a threat. We need to reinstate the positive pride in heritage and American continuity, which once was part of the social aura, when we were the envy of the world.
The stakes are the ultimate issue.

President Trump will do what he said he would do.
Still feels like giving aid and comfort to the enemedia.
“we may not need a wall.”
Yes we will.....for the next time a Democrat gets elected president and is intent on building a Dem majority through votes of illegals like they have been trying in the past 40 years.
I like walls because they can’t be bribed or turned off!
Great point.
I agree wholeheartedly but we're not going to find much support on this forum though.
We're already seeing a decline in illegal immigration just by enforcing the laws. Right now, we're having problems with people overstaying their visas and a multi-billion dollar wall won't keep them out.
I agree part of the effect of the wall is symbolic, in that it can’t easily be removed, but it will require defense just like a fence would. The best thing would be if we just got over our squeamishness about shooting border jumpers.
WARNING!
Stay back 100 yards.
This area video-surveilled and guarded by Robotic Full-automatic Shotguns!
Let's do it like in "The Running Man", you wanted them both, and both you get!
we may not need a wall.
Would someone please explain the big downside to having a wall? You’d think the analogy this were akin to, “If I lose ten pounds, I may not need open heart surgery.”
