New White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly believes he has convinced President Donald Trump to abandon his pledge to construct a large and lengthy wall along the border separating the United States and Mexico, according to The New Yorker.
At a private meeting in tony Aspen, Colorado, two weeks ago, Kelly told a group of high-profile attendees that he had extensively discussed the border wall issue with Trump. Kelly believes he persuaded Trump to abandon his policy goal of erecting a lengthy wall along the 1,954-mile border which the United States shares with Mexico, according to The New Yorker.
Instead of a wall, Kelly said he suggested Trump could utilize a combination of complex monitoring equipment, continuous air surveillance and many miles of fencing can effectively secure the U.S.-Mexico border.
Such a combination of materials and surveillance would be called a barrier instead of a wall, Kelly told his audience.

BS. I guess there’s no end to it.
That is a GOVERNMENT designed fence and what makes you think a GOVERNMENT designed WALL will be any different.
Probably be slopped on each side like the pyramids and have hand holds and foot holes for the handicapped. ADA compliant and all that BS
If you look at the fence the girls are crawling on the left, it is clean. Now the one on the right where the man and woman and one other person are sitting on top there is wire behind it. See there is your foot and hand holds. This is why the fence or wall needs embedded glass or Constantin wire in a V shape on top. Then there needs to be two fences
The wire up the side is to keep drugs from being pushed through
Point to one comment I made in support of open borders.
This is the only fence I am interested in.
I read that ‘test walls’ are being built by competitive bidders on the project. The winner gets to do long spans along the border.
If you do not mind me asking, are you real deep in debt?
Do you buy things you cannot afford when other things that will work that are cheaper without chrome will do just find?
Do you find yourself buying the small bag of chips when you know you will need the big bag?
Do you always buy one pair of shoes that are on sale knowing you could eventually wear another pair if you bought it on sale at the same time?
You know what I want?
I want a wall that says “You are going to keep your trash, Mexico, whether you want to or not”.
I want a mother f*ckin’ impenetrable barrier, son.
I want something so massive that it can’t be torn down, because it’s the 8th Wonder of the World.
And yeah I’ll help pay for it, and I’ll help build it, and I’ll help patrol it.
True or not, I believe this is the type of headline that is dropping Trump's poll numbers, NOT disapproval with Trump's original agenda.
His supporters are likely beginning to lose their patience.
Don't tell me tell President Trump. I am sure he would be glad to take your money. Seems like he is having a devil of a time getting it from Mexico
Securing the border is the aim....how they go about it I leave with the minds that know how to do that ‘effectively’. ...and those who have to work there...... We really know little about what they face there and have even smaller ideas of how things should happen to secure the border.
All I do know is wherever they secure.. it needs to suit the area it’s in and that of those overseeing it to be effective. Just putting up walls isn’t the best thing for every area.
No one on the Trump train ever expected a wall every inch of the border, I certainly didn’t. Some locations along the border are cost prohibitive for a “tall wall” BUT, what is wrong with calling it a “WALL” instead of a “barrier”. What difference does it make. By calling it a barrier, the left, the media, etc., will claim President Trump is caving and abandoning his promise to secure the border.
Too bad there wasn’t a Wall in Charlottesville.
