Washington, D.C. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Judiciary Committee Republicans today sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein calling for the appointment of a second special counsel to investigate unaddressed matters, some connected to the 2016 election and others, including many actions taken by Obama Administration officials like Attorney General Loretta Lynch, FBI Director James Comey, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The letter follows yesterdays House Judiciary Committee approval of H. Res. 446, as amended, to request documents pertaining to the FBIs investigation of former Secretary Clinton.
In their letter, the Judiciary Committee members express concern that the directive given to Special Counsel Robert Mueller is narrow in scope and many concerns arising out of the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath are not being investigated. The members call for the appointment of a second special counsel to investigate grave concerns such as former Attorney General Lynchs directive to former FBI Director Comey to mislead the American people on the nature of the investigation into former Secretary Clinton; the FBI and Justice Departments investigative decisions related to the Clinton email investigation, including the immunity deals given to potential co-conspirators; selected leaks of classified information that unmasked U.S. persons incidentally collected upon by the intelligence community; and the FBIs reliance on Fusion GPS in its investigation of the Trump campaign, among many others issues.
And the special counsels names should be Miguel Estrada and Rudy Guiliani.
I have been studying the issue for months, and I have come to a conclusion that many people will not like, but the facts point that way.
Sessions is a coward.
If he actually did his job, as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the United States, he would have to confront the incredible evil and criminality that infests the political class. That will take great courage, and Jeff Sessions is filled with fear and cowardice in the face of this challenge.
It is what it is.
People can dispute this, and blather on about how "brave" Sessions has been with this or that issue. It is meaningless, because he is at the crossroads, and he failed to act. He ran for cover, and attempted to clothe himself in self-righteousness and charades of "honor" and "integrity." It is all a smoke screen.
Sessions simply lacks the intestinal fortitude to stand up to abject Evil. He was, and is, willing to allow President Trump to die by a thousand cuts, rather than do the job the President entrusted him to do.
Can POTUS authorize a Special Counsel on his own? Seems like that would take the pressure off of Sessions at some point. If the Judiciary wants an investigation and Congress doesn’t act, then it would in Trump’s best interest to follow through with the request. I don’t see how that could give Trump any bad press. This seems to be an opportune time, also/
.
“How does this work? Do we now have to have a vote, or can the AG just go ahead and appoint a SC? In fact, why not?”
Yes the AG can.
No he won’t.
Watch the Democrats cry foul. They will be all over the the place complaining that the Republicans ate doing this just to go on a witch hunt to obfuscate and destroy Hillary Clinton and take away the spotlight off trump. The fact that real crimes have been committed by Obama, Hillary, Lynch, Comey and other Democrats just seems to slip their pea brained minds.
Worse, he’s such an establishment cuck, who, rather than go after the real criminals, restarts the crusade on marijuana - and retools that corrupt abusive terror tool of the feds known as “asset forfeiture.”
This guy is not just a coward, he’s an establishment plant the GOPe is using to stymie whatever real reform President Trump is wont to accomplish.
IOW - this SOB is a double agent for the Deep State. Nothing else explains his loco behavior.
AG Sessions needs to be tossed out on his sleepy do-nothing @ss
How long has Sessions been in Washington? How compromised is he(blackmail-able)? How many of his friends are compromised?
Sadly that is the answer to all the rino questions. If they will not fight for their base there is a reason.
Interesting the names of people who did not sign on to this, including Trey Gowdy.
‘In the meantime, Sessions is off to el Salvador’
Comey was gallivanting in CA when he was fired.
Not making any implications; just adding an observation.
What about the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Republicans?
What is stopping the House Judiciary Committee from setting up its own investigation similar to what was done on Benghazi? Issa, Gowdy, and Buck, members of the committee, did not sign the letter to DOJ. Gowdy acknowledged that today on Fox, but he did not say why he refused to sign the letter.
None of the cited proposed investigations requires a Special Counsel.
The DOJ has NO CONFLICTS or potential conflicts to undertake these investigations of past office holders and candidates.
Jeff Session should just DO HIS JOB!!!
On F&F this morning, the Swamper Trey Gowdy defended “Lyin’ Ryan” by describing him as “honorable”.
It is a massive Swamp filled with traitors!
Is there an “acting AG” here, while Sessions is out of the country?
....someone to sign things etc or make decisions that need immediate attention?
Just asking, not sure how things flow—But I find it BEYOND ODD that THE US-AG has to travel to another country to do his job....is that ‘normal’?
Agree. Gowdy is a phony. He is part of the swamp.
How is Mueller’s investigation ‘limited in scope’? If he’s investigating Trump’s private business going back years, he appears to have WAY TOO MUCH latitude!
One not a citizen of this country.
No, not to my knowledge.
And since Jeff Sessions is a coward and MIA, we won't get one to investigate the real crimes of the Democrats.
I second this motion.
