SACRAMENTO, Calif.

A group that wants California to secede from the United States can start collecting signatures for its ballot initiative.

The state attorney general issued an official ballot measure title and summary Tuesday. The campaign can now start gathering the more than 585,000 signatures it will need to qualify for the 2018 ballot.

The initiative would form a commission to recommend avenues for California to pursue its independence and delete part of the state constitution that says it is an inseparable part of the U.S. The measure would also instruct the governor and California congressional delegation to negotiate more autonomy for the state.

I’d be glad to sign, though I live in Colorado. And my parents, who are both dead, would be happy to sign, too.

“Get the pinko pukes off the USA teat!”

You are exposing your ignorance.

California pays 15-20% more in Federal taxes than it receives in Federal expenditures.

And has for over 50 years.

How does it feel to be subsidized by pinko pukes?

Freeloader.

“CA is a net drain on US resources.”

Maybe so, but for the last 50 years or so CA has paid more in Federal taxes than it has received in Federal expenditures.

Exactly what US resources is it a drain on?

This seems to be a common but misguided sentiment.

If you are a true supporter of the Constitution then just how do you justify supporting this. This is a move toward the dissolution of the U.S. and an end to the nation as you know it. You think that CA success would be the end of it? Success in CA would embolden the socialist democrat party to do anything they can do to bring in other states.

Now, what about all of the taxpayer assets located in CA? You just want to hand over all of the military bases, the equipment, weapons, etc? That’s not counting the other taxpayer owned assets within the state.

This issue was decided 152 years ago. You either fully support and defend the Constitution and the Union or you’re no better than and are arm in arm with the socialist shitbags who are pushing this treason for a second time.

Democrats were responsible for the disaster they implemented in 1860 and they are trying to throw out the Constitution again and implement it again today.

Do you support and defend the Constitution and support the union as it was established or are you just content in sitting back, grabbing another beer and letting someone else take up the fight?

they established pretty firmly in 1861 that they will sic the U.S. Army on you for trying to go

Well, that would be OK too. The "Union troops" vs the queers, moonbats and wetbacks.

The normal people could simply fly the US Flag, sit back and watch the show.

Let the people secede. We’ll keep the land and the rest. Hope these people know where to go live...not that I care. North Korea is nice this time of year I hear...

California can run all the secession ballot initiatives it wants. But they’re just wasting paper (which should big no-no for all the envio-weenies out there.)

There is no legal mechanism in the U.S. Constitution - or anywhere else - that allows for secession. So if a state wants to secede, the Constitution must be changed to allow for it. Ain’t gonna happen.

This whole thing is just more California Dreaming.

Side point: Article IV, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution provides a way to split up existing states. So yep, that’s the ticket. Split California up into two states.

Here’s what will happen. The measure passes and California’s Democrat legislature votes to secede. In Congress, the entire California delegation is arrested as enemy agents. The California-less Congress authorizes military action.

Millions of Californians die as Federal troops burn everything from San Diego to San Francisco. California appeals to China and Russia to intercede on their behalf. That fails and California surrenders.

Reconstruction begins with veterans of the war getting all available land once owned by California citizens. Harsh laws are imposed and California must pay huge reparations.

And 150 years from now, Californians will still be ridiculed and all schools, roads and buildings will be renamed. Rodeo Drive will become Victory for America Drive. Hollywood High will become General Smith High School, And on it will go.

At least, that’s what happened the FIRST time any state seceded.

Then a federal judge says no.

Then that’s then end of it. And then California’s legislature goes back to doing things that are just as silly, but are a bit more reasonable. Like wasting money on high-speed trains. And hiking the minimum wage to some crazy number. That sort of thing.

And should they succeed. The United States should turn off all Public Utilities such as Water, Sewer, Electric and Gas.
Then give them 30 days notice to surrender all United States Military Equipment and assets.

The State of Jefferson would come of this. Much as the Northwest counties of Virginia appealed to Congress to recognize the region as the new state of West Virginia once Virginia seceded from the Union. The new nation of California would lose it’s entire inland empire and the federal government will treat North Island and Pendleton the way we did Guantanamo.

I won’t stoop to your level of ad hominem and vulgar (”shitbag”) attacks. That has no place in this forum.

I will however simply say that I support the right of a state to secede if it finds its membership in the union to be intolerable or antithetical to its interests. In general, I don’t believe a union, organization or group has the right to compel, coerce or force any entity or person to remain in it under any circumstances that it finds repressive. That opens up dangerous, if not tyrannical, possibilities that is inconsistent with the concept of freedom.

Care to show me the article and section of the US Constitutional that makes secession unconstitutional?

The US Const. is silent on the subject of secession.

There is not enough US Army troops to occupy San Diego let alone the entire state of California.
