Senate Dem: We’re Trying To Block A Recess Appointment To Replace Sessions

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said the Senate Judiciary Committee is "exploring" measures that would block President Trump from appointing an acting attorney general to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions during the August recess, effectively allowing him to circumvent the need for congressional confirmation.

"We're exploring the ways right now," Durbin said on MSNBC's "The Beat with Ari Melber."

The Illinois senator declined to offer further details when Melber pushed how they plan to prevent any attempt of Trump to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions, adding that he's told Melber "as much as I can tell you at this moment."

Republicans would have to agree.

Don’t be too quick to believe they won’t.

When the Senate Democrats and the media are your allies, then people should be able to discern the case of the hapless Jeff Sessions with greater clarity.

It’s all about keeping no restrictions on Mueller to destroy Trump. Nothing, Nothing else matters.

I remember that just months ago, many Democrats were saying Sessions was a racist and a KKK supporter. That was all rubbish, of course. Sessions is a decent man. But he has to go.

Trump and Sessions have the Dems’ heads spinning.

You're giving Sessions credit, where credit isn't due.

Trump makes the Dems' heads spin, but they love Sessions, because he stood aside and allowed them to mount a witch hunt against the President.

IMO Trump is getting heat about Sessions enforcement of immigration laws. Despite his use of the immigration issue during the campaign, Trump may be getting ready to strike a deal on immigration to get other items on his agenda passed. I received this email from NumbersUSA:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has just announced new requirements in order for local jurisdictions to receive the Byrne JAG grants issued by the Department of Justice -- cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts.

The message to sanctuary cities from Attorney General Sessions is loud and clear: allow ICE to do its job or lose federal funding.

The Byrne JAG grants program provides hundreds of millions of dollars in grant money to local communities for a wide range of law enforcement efforts. In order to receive future grants, local jurisdictions will have to: allow DHS personnel into their detention facilities to interview detainees to determine legal status; and provide DHS with 48 hours notice before they release aliens on whom ICE has filed detainers.

This is another step taken by AG Sessions to step up interior immigration enforcement efforts, restore the rule of law, and continue to make good on President Trump's campaign promise to end Sanctuary Cities.

AG Jeff Sessions has been a longtime and vocal supporter for immigration policies that serve the national interest. In his five months as Attorney General, he's already taken meaningful steps to help fulfill Trump's campaign promises to end illegal immigration, strengthen interior immigration enforcement, and protect American workers by cracking down on fraud and abuse within the foreign guest-worker programs.

No member of the Trump Administration has done more to fulfill the President's campaign promises! Show your support for AG Sessions by taking one or more of the following action items.

1) Tweet your support for AG Sessions

If you use Twitter, please use your account to show your public support for Attorney General Sessions. We've prepared several Tweets below that you can send simply by clicking on the link. But please create your own Tweets in support of AG Sessions!

It’s amazing what the Great Unwashed such as yourself do not know... and do not know they do not know.

Of course he laid it all on the line. The problem is he is losing the battle.

re: my contributions to the Battle of DC? Ask Newt, Tom Delay and Denny.... and remember, in any battle, the True Believers such as yourself die very bravely... and very quickly. (With apologies to Zorro)

“Nothing, Nothing else matters.”

I believe you are totally and completely correct.

An AG which is not recused can fire Meuller and take over the “Russia” investigation themselves. And fire Rosenstein too.

Of course assuring the country and the Congress that it will be thorough, complete and professional...leaving no stone unturned...no man above the law etc.

And nobody, anywhere, can do jack sh!t about it.

That’s fine O’Great one.

I’ll take the fast death rather than the perpetual losing you and Newt and Delay and Denny have been doing since for-fn-ever.

Sessions can easily straighten this mess out and undo some of the damage he has caused by the simple act of un-recusing himself

If Sessions had those kind of gonads, he wouldn't have recused himself in the first place.

Your idea is a good one, but don't expect him to suddenly find the courage now.

“That’s fine O’Great one.”

r: “O’Great One.” In the future, I’ll make it easy for you. You may simply address me as “Sir,” “Majesty” or “Bwana.” Any will suffice

“I’ll take the fast death”

Ok.

Sessions angthing but “hapless” but I’m zure he’ll get a kick out of that description.

P.S. These are the same losers in senate who have camped on “muh Russia” while Trump haz dismantled the Zero legacy.
