Senate Votes Down Broad Obamacare Repeal
NY Times ^ | July 25, 2017 | THOMAS KAPLAN and ROBERT PEAR

The Senate voted narrowly on Tuesday to begin debate on a bill to repeal major provisions of the Affordable Care Act, but hours later, Republican leaders suffered a setback when their most comprehensive plan to replace President Barack Obama’s health law fell far short of the votes it needed.

The Tuesday night tally needed to reach 60 votes to overcome a parliamentary objection. Instead, it fell 43-57. The fact that the comprehensive replacement plan came up well short of even 50 votes was an ominous sign for Republican leaders still grappling with a formula to pass final health care legislation this week.

The four that HAVE to go in 2018 are the ones who voted for Rubio’s amnesty.

Corker, Hatch, Heller and Flake.

Corker also flipped the Constitution on its head with his Corker bill to allow Obama to get his “deal” with Iran.

It was narrow. The vote to begin debate was 50-50 with Pence breaking the tie.

How about we all just say no?

Really. Refuse to take part in Obama care.

Yeah, a bunch. Then Mitch will offer a compromise at the end.

Mitch promised Paul there would be a clean vote on repeal, that will be great- if it happens.

When Obamacare first became law, the Republicans plan was to repeal only. When did it become Repeal and Replace?

I honestly dont think they care if they’re voted out. There is money behind their no votes and they will walk away wealthy one way or another.

All of the GOP senators voted `nay’ in 2009. Of course it was purely cynical on their parts. They knew the `rats had the votes. When the chips are down for conservatives, when we really need them, they show their true colors.

>>>It was narrow. The vote to begin debate was 50-50 with Pence breaking the tie.<<<

The Vote to begin Debate was narrow, NOT the Vote on the actual Repeal.

In an Election a Candidate winning 53 to 47 is a blowout, especially if the Candidate is a Democrat and 52% of the eligible Voters are Republican.

The Uniparty lives, and they are emboldening the Commies for 2018 and beyond. The Uniparty NEVER supports the Conservative position on any Legislation.

Uniparty is just another word for Democrat.

RE: Anyone have a breakdown on the republican “no” votes? Need to look hard at supporting primary challengers.

GOP Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Bob Corker (Tenn.), Tom Cotton (Ark.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Dean Heller (Nev.), Mike Lee (Utah), Jerry Moran (Kan.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Rand Paul (Ky.) voted against the repeal-replace proposal on the procedural hurdle.

No Democrats voted for it.

The proposal was the first amendment to get a vote after senators took up the House-passed healthcare bill, which is being used as a vehicle for any Senate action, earlier Tuesday.

But it was widely expected to fail because it needed 60 votes because the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) didn’t analyze either the Cruz or Portman proposal that was packaged in with the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA).

Tuesday night’s vote doesn’t prevent GOP leadership from offering another repeal and replace amendment, or another version of BCRA.

It could also help GOP leadership get rank-and-file senators on the record, as they try to figure out a path forward.

Every single one of them that flipped between administrations should be voted out, even if it means voting for a Democrat.

My guess is that Lee, Paul and Cotton didn’t vote for it is because it left too much Obamacare crap in place. I look to these three in the Senate to being the only ones who are willing to do the right thing.

This was intentional.
Leadership added a conservative amendment that the ‘progressive’ R’s would vote against and a liberal amendment that conservatives would vote against.

NO votes: Collins, Corker, Cotton, Graham, Heller, Lee,
Moran, Murkowski, Paul
\

I find it disturbing that at least Murowski was holding out for PORK :( She needs to be primaried!!!!

Would like to know the reasons the others VOTED NO...AFTER YEARS OF SENDING REPEAL BILLS TO WHITE HOUSE...

So 62,979,879 citizens voted for President Trump and yet 9 senators voted to stop repeal???? Why would Cotton, Lee, and Paul vote no on repeal??? They are conservatives :(

Saw this from a politico article on Drudge:

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/07/25/obamacare-repeal-vote-senate-republicans-240926

Shortly before 6 p.m., Republican leaders released the text of the new amendment.

“Just to show you how troubling this process is, at 10 of 6 we received a [178-page] amendment,” Collins said. “That is major policy and we’re going to have potentially an hour and a half to read through that many pages?”

Dozens of other amendments are planned, including the lengthy “vote-a-rama” process of unlimited amendment expected on Thursday evening.

“We’re going to be doing a lot of voting so I hope you eat your Cheerios,” said Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas).

This is no way to legislate when they have had YEARS TO PLAN...
