The San Diego Comic-Con (which, believe it or not, used to actually feature comic books) is an annual celebrity fest these days. One such notable, Liev Schreiber, was in attendance this year, partly to promote, but also to parent.
Schreiber took his young sons to the entertainment spectacle this year, both in costume. His oldest son, 9-year-old Sasha, went dressed as a Jedi, and his youngest, 8-year-old Kai, decided to channel the unfettered persona of Harley Quinn.
As one would quickly assume, the child’s costume choice and the parent’s willingness to let him go as he pleased, inspired a fair amount of commentary in some circles online.
“Liev Schreiber is an awesome dad for this!” wrote the Twitter user Common Gay Boy, followed by a chorus of agreement.
Some other observers found a few things to complain about it, however.
“Cosplaying as a female character is ONE thing. Wearing a slutty outfit of a movie character that isn’t age appropriate is ANOTHER thing!” wrote the detractor VeganMegan on Twitter.
There is a growing movement in society to more frequently allow for boys to dress in costumes and play with toys that might traditionally be more associated with girls, and vice versa. Given how much discussion happens when public figures engage in less gender-specific practices, it’s clear there’s a ways to go before it becomes noncontroversial.
Schreiber shares custody of his sons with actress Naomi Watts. The couple split up in 2016 after an 11-year relationship. They’ve both been very public about their commitment to co-parenting. “We’re parents together so we’ll be together for the rest of our lives no matter,” Schreiber was quoted late last year. “Hopefully, that never changes and I don’t think it will.”

Same thing with Warren Beatty’s daughter, who decided to become his son. Sometimes you wonder if this is a way some young people chose to get attention when your parents are both movie stars. I speculate that if Paul McCartney was just now bring his children up, this may have happened in his family too.

And Charlize Theron’s adopted son wears dresses (at least in the pictures that are in the news). I wonder if the celebrities build ‘street cred’ by promoting this budding ‘transgenderism’ in their children. (My son, now in his 30’s, NEVER requested to wear a dress, at any time) I also wonder if the fact that women/girls are being promoted as the only thing good in our lives has anything to do with it. Maybe little boys just want to be ‘good’ and boys/men are ALWAYS portrayed as bad/evil. Especially White boys/men.

Margot Robbie played Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. Someone may want to keep a picture of her ready in case Liev’s son’s picture shows up in the thread.

I can honestly say I have no idea who Liev Schreiber or Harley Quinn are, and can only guess what comic- con is.
Aging momma can get more auditions if the wolves of Hollywood think her son is in play.
