If you don’t think politics influences everything done in movies and TV, you’re not looking close enough.
Yes because blacks weren’t the only Slaves.
Well, it is quite reasonable to suggest that debt slavery has replaced chattel slavery, so there’s that.
Rush has this wrong. The show will not portray America as a slave state, but as two states, one slave one free. The blacks are already upset.
The ancient Egyptian Pharaoes held the Jewish people as slaves. The ancient Greeks also had slaves, and the Romans held the first Christians as slaves.
Good for you. I refuse to subscribe to HBO also.
And then there was, shutter, Turtledove’s “Guns of the South,” where time-traveling South Africans equipped Lee’s army with AK-47’s.
“Yes because blacks werent the only Slaves.”
In the US they were.
Chinese were never slaves in the Western Hemisphere.
Some Irish were in Jamaica, around Cromwell’s time.
Anyway, here's another early counterfactual book that got lost in the shuffle:
They should include a look at the Jewish slave traders and the brutal half-black bastards of powerful families who owned the most horrific of the slave operations. Lets get Spike Lee to make a movie about his (black) slave trading ancestors.
A comment so stupid you actually had to post it twice?
Later, the Irish were marched right off the boats and into uniform and sent to free the blacks, which rankled some.
It would depend on who you asked, the slave or the slave holder.
Other than being forced to live in squalor and poverty and eat sh!t by the side of the road. There must be some way of agreeing on something. The rich treated the poor poorly. The New Englanders had their slaves until they realized they could accomplish the same with indentures and company store credits. How much difference between a serf and a slave?
Those are fair philosophical questions.
The problem was the slaves were black; they stood out; if you were a free black, people would probably still have assumed you were a slave. The association lingers. They still stand out. Other ethnicities blend in over time. Blacks never do. They’re still black. Society/government have tried to resolve this, but apparently it can’t.
I apologize for the first stupid remark, I suppose I thought I was being clever.
The novelty and energy are gone. Not that everything is awful, but TV isn't as path-breaking or revolutionary as it once seemed to be.
It's hard to say how good or how bad this new show will be, but there's no reason to be defensive when it comes to Jefferson Davis and the fire eaters.
If your ancestors were ordinary Confederate soldiers and their wives or widows, they were in their own way victims of the secessionist elite and their plans.
I get the idea that Rush is not a fan of uchronia, or does know about it. Seemed a bit overboard.
On the other hand Rush has mentioned several times that we fought a civil war and one of the results was the ending of slavery. Rush seems to think this was really great. I think it is rather humiliating that slavery could not have been ended by some other means.
No problem. Don’t even think about it.
Another thing, by the time of the Civil War, even some people who were only 1/16 African and 15/16 European might still be slaves.
