Game of Thrones Showrunners to Portray America as Slave State
Rush Limbaugh.com ^ | July 21, 2017 | Rush Limbaugh

RUSH:I just heard about it this morning. I mean, the details of it. There are two people that are primarily responsible for the TV show Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss — and they are, admittedly, great at what they do. They are the showrunners for Game of Thrones. Well, we’re in the penultimate season for Game of Thrones, season 7. There’s one more season, 8, which will air in about a year from now.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss

Now, their fans were hoping that they would do spin-offs of surviving characters in Game of Thrones — or maybe, you know, go back and do prequels of existing and new characters and basically continue the franchise. But they’re not gonna do that. They instead have contracted with HBO to do a new show called Confederate. No date yet. I mean, they can’t even… I don’t think they can even get to it until after 2018, after season 8 of Game of Thrones, at least whenever that finishes production.

So it’s not imminent, and anything can change. How many of you have seen or heard of an Amazon Video series called The Man in the High Castle? You heard of that? The premise of that show is that the Germans won World War II and that America is under the control of the Nazis, and so is the U.K., and so is all of Europe. I tried to watch the show. I couldn’t get into it. Even though I knew the premise, I couldn’t get into it. There is a British TV show that… I don’t even remember the name of it. It tackled the same subject.

The Man in the High Castle Season 1 - Official Trailer: What If? | Amazon Video

Imagine, if you will, that Hitler won. It was a little bit better to watch, but I still didn’t think it made any sense with the premise. Well, this show is called Confederate, and you know what its premise is? That the South won the Civil War and that the United States has been a slave state ever since and is at this point in time. To this day, we’re a slave state. “The story,” HBO said, “follows a broad swath of characters on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Demilitarized Zone — freedom fighters, slave hunters, politicians, abolitionists, journalists, the executives of a slave-holding conglomerate and the families of people in their thrall.”

Now, what do you think the impact of this show is gonna be? Why are they…? (interruption) “Stir up trouble?” That’s not even the half of it. Stir up trouble? How about causing trouble? Why in the world would anyone do this? This is why I have gone so deeply into trying to convince people who liberals are and trying to spot them from the first notice, the first moment that you can spot them and then understanding what you’re dealing with.

Why would somebody want to do this? What would be the point? And there is one, and it’s political, and you can’t say it’s not. I’ll tell you what I think is driving this, and it’s in front of us every day. Black Lives Matter epitomizes this. The premise is that the United States never ended slavery. It’s always been with us. It’s with us now. The cops are racist. This is a white Christian nation still wishes for slavery. The American left believes this country is rotten, that it is pond scum, that its founding was unjust, illegitimate, immoral, and all of that.

And they believe there hasn’t been any reformation; there hasn’t been any growth. We didn’t really end slavery because look at life today. Look at Ferguson, look at Baltimore, look at… They’ll cite all these examples. They run around… The left runs around and to this day believes that the United States still holds to many of the vestiges of slavery. And this program, this show is intended to demonstrate it by taking it to an extreme. What can the value of this possibly be? Well, let’s examine. Let’s give the benefit of the doubt. Let’s play with this.

Maybe they want to show how important the Civil War was in the effort of the United States to end slavery, how horrible it was. Maybe this is the way they tend to try to illustrate how horrible it was for those of you who weren’t alive during the era to actually have witnessed it or experienced it, and so it’s a testament. But somehow, I don’t think that’s the objective. Because when you have leftists behind this, the objective has to be… I mean, there’s nothing factual about Black Lives Matter, for example.

Black Lives Matter and all of these extremist racial civil rights — the extremist ones — special interest groups, are all about trying to make the case that nothing’s really changed. And yet the United States was among the first nations in the history of the world to actually end slavery. Five hundred thousand-plus Americans died in the process. This has been trending. This shouldn’t… Really, if you pay attention every day to the left… If you’ve been paying attention since Ferguson, take your pick of any event prior to it.

Go to Baltimore. Take a look at the Democrat Party’s open-endedly excusing all of this. The media is still the constant sympathy understanding, there is never any condemnation for looting or property rights damage or any of the sort. We’re all told we have to understand it. There’s lingering rage. There’s been increased talk of reparations, for example. So this is just the next step in the progression of committing to film the liberal vision of what the United States really is. It’s not just an entertainment objective here.

And it shouldn’t surprise anybody that HBO would get behind it and endorse it. But nothing good can come of this. Pshhh! I mean, this is… Let’s hope that between now and then there’s some things change in this. Is still a long way off. And after the green light it, then of course there’s casting and production. Things on HBO take years to actually get made and ready for air.

So we shall see. But it’s a slavery series. They’re openly admitting everything I just told you. Confederate. I’m told that there’s already massive attention being paid to this, pro and con, on Twitter. People are weighing in on it. But again, the premise is: Imagine the South had won the Civil War and that slavery was the order of the day nationwide.

Break Transcript

RUSH: I’m being inundated, “Hey, hey, this is not new. People have already done this.” No, they have not done this. There was a mockumentary. It was a fake doc. It was a parody — not sure how you would describe it. It was not a documentary. It’s being described as a mockumentary. Confederate states of America some years ago, it was picked up by IFC, which is a U.K. distribution outfit. The fact that you haven’t heard of it should tell you that this is not a factor.

But when HBO does something, folks, you’re gonna have to go to Wikipedia to find out about the Confederate states of America. I’m gonna tell you, if they do this, what ends up on screen is gonna be of secondary — Imagine the red carpet parties. Imagine the casting party, and then you’re gonna have the wrap party, then you’re gonna have the premier party. The whole cast is gonna be rotating guests on every television show in America as new experts on the current state of slavery in America.

The premise is gonna be, “What if the South won?” Well, the premise is gonna be, “Really, we haven’t gotten rid of slavery. Look at the way the world is in America.” That’s gonna be the point of this. You’re not gonna be able to escape it. You’re not gonna have to go to Wikipedia to find out about this. You’re not gonna be able to escape it if they do this. I know these people. Snerdley said, “Do you think they don’t understand this could really cause –” Have any of them really expressed shock, anger, disappointment that a madman picked up a gun and tried to assassinate a bunch of Republicans? Where is the stated outrage over that?

Imagine if the shooter had been someone aiming at Democrats, it would still be the lead headline all over the media and it would have been used to cause every Republican in Congress to resign. And maybe Trump. They would have never let up. But this guy, a lunatic Bernie Sanders supporter, grabs a gun, tries to assassinate a bunch of Republicans in Arlington, Virginia, at a softball practice, or baseball practice. And they report it on a couple of days, and then they do a couple stories on the guy, “Yeah, you know, it’s kind of understandable why this guy was outraged. It’s a sad thing he was driven over the edge,” and then it was dropped.

What do you mean, “Do they not understand what this is going to do?” They know full well what it’s gonna do. They’re not just doing this to have a little cocoon over here called entertainment. That’s not what the people that are gonna be involved in this are gonna do. I mean, to even conceive of this project, what must be going through your mind frequently?

Anyway, it’s not even in production yet, folks. It’s an idea and it’s titled and it’s got The Game of Thrones writers, producers, the show runners and so forth, but it’s still a year or two away from production, I think. I mean, look, I’m guessing about that. I’m guessing they can’t get this started ’til they finish Game of Thrones and that’s not gonna be over for a year. Maybe they could do it side by side. Who knows. Time will tell. It won’t be long.

We should complain that there is not enough diversity being portrayed in the slaves.

There should be Chinese, Irish, and other Races besides Africans being portrayed as slaves.

The funny thing is that this is Historical FACT!

Handmaids Tale and slavery are in the world today but no one in Hollywood is willing to make a tv series about muslims exposing the reality of Islamic theocracy.

That’s funny and a good satiric point.

“The funny thing is that this is Historical FACT!”

No, not really.

Methinks Rush doth protest too much. Alternate history has been very popular in print and on film. Harry Turtledove did a whole series on the South winning and what followed. “C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America” was a movie that was made about 10 years ago. “Fatherland” was a book and a movie that postulated a Nazi win. “Red Dawn” theorized a war between the U.S. and Russia/Cuba. There isn’t politics behind this, there’s money.

Actually, Chinese building the railroads were treated as slaves and shot if they tried to escape. The Irish were also slaves at one time.

“There isn’t politics behind this, there’s money.”

Maybe - maybe not.

Let’s see how things are portrayed. For example, if the Democrat Party is somehow listed as the party of freedom, its politics.

Rush is right once again. America is supposed to be a melting pot. Melting pots don’t happen automatically. It takes effort to make it work.

Unfortunately, the media elite have chosen to try to divide us. Bring up old wounds, and then rub salt in them. Make Citizen A hate Citizen B for events that happened long ago.

So why not these shows as well? Make them as bloody and graphic as possible. Get everyone all enraged.

“Massacre I”: The story of how U.S. troops killed innocent Indians. Be sure to show dead Indian babies.
“Massacre II”: The story of how Indian warriors killed white settlers. Be sure to show dead white babies.

“Urban Warfare I”: The story of how rogue white police officers kill innocent black people. Be sure to show dead black children.

The people who have become filthy rich in this country are the ones who rip it to shreds the most. To them, I say, get the f*ck out!

I would support this if they let it be known every second in the show that the slave owners are Democraps. “Hey Democrat Joe, how are ya doin?” “Hey Democrat Dave, you got any n-s to sell me?” “Sure Democrat Joe, I’ll send the right over to your Democrat plantation”

In "C.S.A: The Confederate States of America" the Democrats were the party in power in the Confederacy. And that film was written and directed by a black man.

Older kid was begging me to get HBO so she could watch the new season of Game of Thrones. I refused. Not going to put my money into HBO’s hands. And not going to watch any shows or movies with slavery as the main topic or setting or whatever. That shit ended a long time ago and the leftists need to give it a rest and move on. I’ve never held a slave, nor have any of my ancestors.

“Actually, Chinese building the railroads were treated as slaves and shot if they tried to escape. The Irish were also slaves at one time.”

Chinese were never slaves in the US.

Irish were sold in to slavery early on, not in what became the US.

There’s no upside of trying to equate what was done to Africans vis-a-vis slavery and other groups, because it’s not true there’s any equivalency or even similarity.

It’s just weird.

I too was thinking of Harry Turtledove’s “Southern Victory” series of novels: How Few Remain, American Front, Walk in Hell, Breakthroughs, Blood and Iron, The Center Cannot Hold, The Victorious Opposition, Return Engagement, Drive to the East, The Grapple, & In at the Death

Slavery would have changed along with society and technology. Today it would be more like an H-1b visa program.

I think Turtledove went a bit overboard with the Nazi parallels but overall an OK series.

Info from the Borgen Project:
https://borgenproject.org/10-statistics-on-slavery-today/

1. An estimated 29.8 million people live in modern slavery today

2. Slavery generates $32 billion for traffickers globally each year

3. Approximately 78% of victims are enslaved for labor, 22% of victims are enslaved for sex

4. 55% of slavery victims are women and girls

5. 26% of slaves today are children under the age of 18

6. An estimated 60,000 victims of slavery are enslaved in the United States.

The 2013 Walk Free Global Slavery Index places U.S. at 134th out of 162 countries
Rankings were determined based on three factors: a country’s estimated slavery prevalence by population, a measure of child marriage and a measure of human trafficking.

7. Iceland, Ireland and the United Kingdom tied for the ranking of 160 in the 2013 Global Slavery Index. However, even with the top ranking in the survey, these countries are not free from slavery. In the United Kingdom alone, there are an estimated 4,200 to 4,600 victims of slavery.

8. The country with the highest percentage of of its population in slavery is Mauritania with approximately 4% of the total population enslaved. This amounts to roughly 140,000 to 160,000 people enslaved — Mauritania’s total population is only a mere 3.8 million.

9. India has the largest number of slavery victims at a horrifying 14 million.

10. The top 10 per-capita slavery hot spots are:

Mauritania
Haiti
Pakistan
India
Nepal
Moldova
Benin
Cote d’Ivoire
Gambia
Gabon
