What happens if McCain can't go back to work in the Senate?

Sen. John McCain's office announced Wednesday he has a cancerous brain tumor.

McCain's office is optimistic of his return to his duties, saying "Further consultations with Senator McCain's Mayo Clinic care team will indicate when he will return to the United States Senate."

The tumor, a glioblastoma, is a highly malignant, aggressive, cancerous tumor, according to the American Brain Tumor Association. McCain is 80 years old. He is getting treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation, at the Mayo Clinic.

The Seventeenth Amendment established the rules of appointing vacancies in the Senate. In Arizona, if a senator dies, resigns or is expelled, Gov. Doug Ducey would appoint a replacement of the same political party.

The governor could choose to appoint himself. The person appointed would serve until the next statewide election.

The media are going to have to find another prodigious creator of leaked, fake news.

Oh don't worry, Jeff the Flake will step right into McCain's shoes.

All these really old DC swamp rats like McCain and Feinstein go to Walter Reed every weeks or so to get an injection of a super Dr Feelgood cocktail that keeps them going like demons. Hillary gets the same. They are all getting juiced courtesy of the taxpayer who they then screw with open borders.
The above is not proven but what I think is going on. This is why these moldy old Old Senate effers never resign due to ill health or miss an election. They just keep on going like they sold their soul to the devil.

Trick question as he never has worked in the senate before. May have been present but never actually got any work done.

Robert Byrd was a drooling vegetable at the end. It was painful to watch him. No idea who was actually casting his votes

In my experience among friends and acquaintances who were diagnosed with glioblastoma the life expectancy is in the 4 month range. In two months, all I’ve known were bed ridden with a morphine pump in hand. At some point after that, hospice will remove the regulation on the morphine and the patient can punch out anytime after that.

Survival rates are less than 4%.

John McCain faces a very grim reality. My advice to the Senator would be go home and spend his few remaining good days with his family.

“Work” and “the Senate” hardly go together.

Exactly. Also, whatever work they do is actually done by their increasingly bloated staffs. His chief of staff has probably called the shots in that office for some time now. Only thing the COS can't do is vote for McCain.

Even the “extraordinary” people, under Obamacare or not, stand little chance of getting the kind of heroic care to extend life for perhaps a few weeks or months, once they have passed the Biblical “three score and ten” in years.

Follow the prognosis of anyone over the age of 75 who has fallen and broken a hip. Remaining lifetime is short and bedridden.

Take the pill.

With the Republican majority razor-thin, if I were a Republican Senator I would take personal offense if McCain tied up a needed vote by refusing to resign yet be unable to vote.

On the other hand, I could see a spiteful McCain hoard his useless vote just to spite the Trump agenda.

That was certainly the way it went with a good friend of mine. There is no way out of this and his time is almost certainly very short.

Russell Pearce is a great guy! I met the man while working for Convention of States. Given how much the left hates him he’s the best choice!

Only one person did even less. And he became President!

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If mccain can’t go back to work, nobody will have to worry about his testimony in the steele/trump dossier matter.

Ever seen a brain tumor as COD on the death list before?

From the article...

"...Under Arizona law, if McCain were no longer able to serve, the governor must appoint a replacement who has to be from the same party.

The successor would serve until the next statewide election. The winner of that election would serve out the unexpired term, which ends in 2022..."
