WASHINGTON President Trump said on Wednesday that he never would have appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions had he known Mr. Sessions would recuse himself from overseeing the Russia investigation that has dogged his presidency, calling the decision very unfair to the president.
In a remarkable public break with one of his earliest political supporters, Mr. Trump complained that Mr. Sessionss decision ultimately led to the appointment of a special counsel that should not have happened. Sessions should have never recused himself and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else, Mr. Trump said.
In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times, the president also accused James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director he fired in May, of trying to leverage a dossier of compromising material to keep his job. Mr. Trump criticized both the acting F.B.I. director who has been filling in since Mr. Comeys dismissal and the deputy attorney general who recommended it. And he took on Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel now leading the investigation into Russian meddling in last years election.

Pence is okay for now but he’s not the man for 2014.
That's what J. Edgar Comey was doing.
And what Robert Mueller was originally appointed to not do when he was nominated during the Bush 43 administration.
Cannabis does not make people criminals, the law does.
And then there’s that Hillary treason and the Clinton crime family thing that AG Sessions has no interest in investigating.
Sessions has been working at rounding up lower level criminals: Medicare fraud for one, but his recusal out of the gate was weird. It was if he knew something was already in the works, such as the non-incident with Don, Jr.
I would like to think Mr. Sessions plans ahead without blabbing his next move, but not the case.
Indeed, Sessions should do the honorable thing and resign. Of course, getting anyone else through the Senate that would be better is going to be a real tall order.
Does anyone have a link to the video of Trump saying this?
I just want to hear it for myself
Nothing wrong with VP Pence.
I’ll be glad when Sessions is gone. Put in Jay Sekulow.
What the hell happened to Sessions?
I think Sessions should have remained a U.S. Senator. He’d be a better advocate for Trump’s policies there.
Or Trump could reshuffle his cabinet, and put Sessions as Chief of Staff or Defense Secretary.
“Mad Dog” Mattis has been ineffective as Defense Secretary as well.
Swamp fever from being in D.C. too long?
Trump is 100% correct. Its refreshing to hear someone speak plainly, clearly, and truthfully.
I don't trust him anymore than I trust any other multi-term congressman. All of the problems related directly back to DC regulars - Comey, Sessions, Mueller, Ryan, McConnell, Prebius, RNC, DNC, etc.
“Pence is Trumps #1 mistake. Pence is NOT the man in 2024 to finish what Trump started”
That may end up being true. I’ve never been comfortable with Pence. His body language betrays him.
Sessions, however, is a more immediate problem. Even more so after this Trump/NYT interview.
Good point. It IS the NY Times after all. Credible they are not.
Sekulow or Fitton or someone else with a dogged determination to get to the truth.
Interestingly, the New York Times wrote this up in a very fair way.
I would disagree that rats have a backbone. They do, however, have cohesion. They will ignore what they feel is right and get the job done. They also are easily bought off.
A backbone is doing what is right for their constituents and being able to defend it to the point it changes others minds. That takes integrity, which seems to be the missing gene.
