WASHINGTON President Trump said on Wednesday that he never would have appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions had he known Mr. Sessions would recuse himself from overseeing the Russia investigation that has dogged his presidency, calling the decision very unfair to the president.
In a remarkable public break with one of his earliest political supporters, Mr. Trump complained that Mr. Sessionss decision ultimately led to the appointment of a special counsel that should not have happened. Sessions should have never recused himself and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else, Mr. Trump said.
In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times, the president also accused James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director he fired in May, of trying to leverage a dossier of compromising material to keep his job. Mr. Trump criticized both the acting F.B.I. director who has been filling in since Mr. Comeys dismissal and the deputy attorney general who recommended it. And he took on Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel now leading the investigation into Russian meddling in last years election.

True
But Trump needs allies and I don’t see any
It is almost like he is completely on his own
Yes, but are the miseries if and risks to his family, including Don Jr and Kushner, enough to lead Trump to act anyway? What is the point of this public calling out if not a rationale for action?
Again, you have to invoke cheese in the maze. Maybe he is upset. I know he was upset the day Sessions announced his recusal.
On the other hand, this is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Trump just as a major offensive is about to begin-—as likely as not, with Sessions leading.
Don’t be so sure. That is precisely Trump’s MO. Remember Trump to “Bannon and Kushner, ‘You guys WORK IT OUT?’”
There was nothing to work out. It was all theater. What did Ike do with Patton just before putting him in charge of the 3d Army? Supposedly had him in the doghouse, when in fact he had Patton tagged to lead the offensive across Europe all the time.
Moreover, I don’t know how you can say that a guy who has crushed illegal gangs, helped in the deportation of hundreds, gotten thousands to self deport, and set up an assault on sanctuary cities is a disappointment at all, let alone a “colossal disappointment.”
Personally, I’d expect a major offensive now from Sessions, likely in the criminal side toward Lynch et al.
It’s clear that if Trump fails to stop the ruling elite’s servants, the Clintons and the D.C. Establishment from ruining his presidency, they will bury Trump with continued attacks and we the people lose. Trump’s “Let’s just move on” policy against the Clintons further kills the rule of law in DC
Well, I’m totally opposite of everyone on this thread. I not only think this is a smokescreen by Trump-—entirely consistent with every other major move he has made-—but in fact it’s all the more likely Sessions will be heading the next offensive.
See if I’m right on this.
Blackmail is what makes DC go round. I think there is a chance that Sessions was compromised from the start. Tthe racism, etc., charges have stopped since he was confirmed It is actually strange how little Trump’s AG has been a target, really.
So far, you’ve been right!
Go, DJT!
Mesmerize the opposition and pull rabbits out of your socks!
...and visa versa...
:)
I think your analysis is correct.
The statement about Sessions by Trump make no sense, out of the blue, unnatural... and from what I gather about Trump, is that he does nothing off the cuff, for no reason, etc. It’s planned and figured out in advance. So there is a reason for his statement. It just jumps out of the background like a red book in a black and white photograph.
Yes. Miller worked for Sessions.
2024. Sorry.
Mathis is tied up with infighting with McMaster wanting another Grand War in the Middle East. Plus, he still does not have half his people in place yet.
Totally agree with you, Hide and watch
I’m with you.
Pass the popcorn!
More of a "enough already" shot across the bow that needed to be taken. Same as how he is now actively twisting nipples in the Congress - he was as patient as could be and now it's time to make sure they and all their constituents who voted for them because of promises to do the right thing, and voted for Trump for his agenda, know where the problem lies.
You may have missed the sarcasm of my ‘deeply humbled’ Pence style comment :<)
“It is important for the DOJ to maintain independence from a president
That is one of the dumbest things I have read today. Neither the Justice Department or the FBI are independent, they work for the President period. “
No, just like the President, they work for the American people, with the purpose and responsibility to uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States. Sessions did not swear an oath to defend Donald Trump, but rather to “defend the Constitution of the United States”.
I probably did. Somebody must have said “deeply humbled”. Enlighten me.
He still has a boss, that being the President.
