Why the GOP Congress will be the most unproductive in 164 years
The Week ^ | July 18, 2017 | David Faris

Just six months ago, it looked like the Republican Party was about to go on a legislative blitzkrieg, shredding law after law passed by the Obama administration. ObamaCare would be vaporized and replaced with a nickel rattling inside an empty Mountain Dew can. Dodd-Frank was sure to be tossed aside for a transparent giveaway to Wall Street. And Republicans would pass their regressive tax reform, their perplexing border-adjustment tax, and so much more. The GOP hadn't held total power in American politics since 2006, and the party had become much more conservative in the interim. And instead of George W. Bush, a man who recognized at least some theoretical limits on free market fundamentalism, the new Congress would work with a sub-literate tabula rasa named Donald Trump, a man who could probably be persuaded to inject himself with experimental medication if an important-seeming person whispered "do it" in his ear.

Soros owns Ryan, McConnell and most of these corrupt politicians. That’s why they don’t want obamacare repealed.

No one owns Trump.

“They lied.”

The Republican party has been a lie since January 20, 1989, the day Ronald Reagan left office and George H.W. Bush was sworn in as president. Mr. “Read my lips, no new taxes” promptly caved to the Democrats and passed a major tax increase. Since then GOP voters have behaved like abused spouses every election season believing the campaign promises and then watching them go back to colluding with the Democrats once back in office.

We now know the GOP is just the other side of the socialist coin. They have no intention of passing conservative legislation or standing in the way of the progressive movement.

If Trump is coopted by the swamp, this voter has cast his last vote. I will no longer vote for “least bad” because I’ve learned evil is evil, there are no degrees of evil. From here on out I’ll go to the polls to vote enthusiastically for the real thing. I will not longer vote for the lesser of two evils because when you do so, you get the same thing.

No. Everybody on Freerepublic knew then, as we know now, that the GOP Congress is no friend of conservative, righteous and common sense principles.

We all knew then, as now, the GOP Congress is in bed with liberals, and they're all just there to party. And who parties hardest? Democrats.

GOP obstructionism is nothing new.

It’s not possible to replace CommieCare with anything honest.

GIVE ME ONE REASON TO VOTE REPUBLICAN IN 2018.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot. Almost everyone in congress is owned by lobbyists of global corporations, who like the system the way it is. We need to build lobbying groups that can fund pro-MAGA candidates, and then primary both republicans and democrats who are pro-globalist.

see post #23. I see no reason to continue voting in national elections, sorry! I have been voting for 55 years always for the “R” which is NOW TODAY the “U” for Uniparty.

LBJ would succeed today too. So would ANY president who was pushing a control-freak, giveaway agenda.

The GOP wants to toss it’s majorities to the Democrats and let them impeach and remove Trump from office.

That is all.

The Swamp has to go.

His staff leaks all of the GOP-e to the DNC and he threatens the GOP-e to leave the Party if he doesn’t get his way.

It all began under GWB

As some wit once said, expecting the Republicans to govern is like having Barney Frank judge the Miss America contest. If your heart really isn’t in it then the results aren’t going to be that great.

With only a very small majority, the Republicans in the House & Senate need more victories next year since Dems totally obstruct, no votes!

So the Republicans control both houses of Congress and the White House. The control the committees and the agenda. How exactly did Democrat obstruction cause this latest fiasco or any other mistake that has been made since January?

It’s going to be very, very hard for any R to not vote for a repeal. You might get Collins, but it would still pass. Even two defections still passes.

Now that Collins and Capito have already said they will not vote for a straight repeal the only question is how many more Republicans will join them. I'm guessing about six.

The Donald has lifted the rock and now all the snakes Dems and Rino’s are out in the sunlight slithering right and left for the safety of the darkness.

This is very unsettling but necessary for us to see the true nature of the beasts that have been elected.

Go Donald. You will prevail.

Recently I have been reading about the writing of the US Constitution, a contentious time of eight years. Those patriots who fought and formed this new nation were quite clear. They clearly did not want any supermajority except for treaties and overturn of vetoes. As this 2011 article below points out, the supermajority is putting a hurt on getting things done. It is not law, it is a senate rule.

I totally agree. I refuse to support the republican party if they throw away the opportunity they were given in November 2016.
