I'm very sorry about the response time problems we've been having recently and now this page loading problem we're having today. I've called and left messages on John's phone, email, freepmail and facebook several times per day since Saturday. No luck. He seems to be off the grid. Don't know if he took a trip or his phone is broken, lost or turned off and he has no internet service in his new apartment or what, but I've been unable to reach him. Also do not have his new address. Hopefully, he'll check in soon and get it fixed. Don't mind telling you, I'm worried.
Meanwhile, until John finally checks in and gets it fixed, here's a temporary workaround:
At the top of the articles index page click: "Account" and then "My Preferences."
Set 20 messages per page
Set 20 results per page
Set them both to 20. You can change them back after John gets the problem fixed.

Prayers up.
You do good Jim. Don’t let the bastards bother you. Shit happens and they just need to accept that.
Work around isn’t working for me unless I log out. Oh well, life goes on with or without FR working 100% :) Hopefully John can get the kinks out in the next couple of days. If not, good excuse for me to work on my personal finance blog and exercise.
May have to do that. I can see a completely separate server and database for archives. Thanks.
My comments are intended to make a point with Jim, not to undercut FR by posting a list of sites that FR readers should go to in place of FR.
And bedsides, I have found none that suit me better as to what a news site should be.
Some I go to because they hold stories for a longer period and that helps me not miss a news item. Some roll along like a ticker similar to FR but cover a slightly different perspective.
But none are as interesting as FR.
But that makes waiting three minutes for the post page to load even more frustrating.
Sounds like a corrupt plugin. Disable all external plugins and check the logs to find the error. See if that clears the problem. If it does, enable plugins one at a time. Each time check to ensure site page is loading fully. At some point it will break again. That will be your bad plugin.
Hope this helps. Someone you know and trust aside from John can remote in and fix this problem in 15 minutes.
Bkmrk.
Probably cuz it’s running verrrrrry slow.
I am an unrepentant FR addict and will probably never seek out rehab but your lack of contact with John sounds more concerning to me right now. Family is everything. Is there no one you can call upon to go and take a look for him in person?
Wishing for the best and a speedy reunion.

You live alone, dontcha..
Just between you and me, CNN has probably sicked the Russians on you.
I get it. But we are news junkies and there is nothing wrong with sharing other tried and tested news sources and discussions. This is 2017 and we have choices.
And btw, John is Jim’s son, not brother.
And also btw, I changed the settings as Jim suggested and it works a little better now.
Jim -
Your not being able to reach John is a far bigger issue to me (and others) than any short-term site problems.....
Praying.............
No.
But I am a night owl.
Not that hard, really. Sure does screw up Thanksgiving and Christmas though.
By the way, that’s possibly being done virtually in real time anyway. As of the last upgrade some months ago, it’s my understanding that we have enough solid state drive capacity installed that everything that gets accessed is held in solid state memory to minimize drive accessing. In fact, I seem to remember john saying we now have enough capacity to hold the entire database in memory. But, obviously, there’s a wrench in the mechanism somewhere.
I’ll add my 2cents - this “workaround” did not work for me.

We need a cloud-hosted server.
Working normally now.
Maybe John was working on it from wherever he is.
