CNN has come under fire for suggesting it will publish the identity of a private citizen if he behaves in a way that displeases the network.

And dox them? Threaten to ‘out them’ globally if they engage in political speech with which CNN disagrees?
No thanks.
Here’s the CNN worker that outed Han....
Employee of da C-N-N:
Tsing Tsang Tsing Luchiday
Found a meme creator to dox threaten:
Tsing Tsang Tsing Luchiday
They were so proud of being bold then he turned out to be 15 years old:
Tsing Tsang Liu, Tsing Tsang Liu, Tsing Tsang Tsing Luchidaaaaaay
“Publish his name if adult I agree HOWEVER not under a veiled threat. I could be wrong but that may be a case”
Suppose someone put a sign in front of their house that said “IMPEACH TRUMP.”
CNN could knock on their neighbors’s door and ask the name of that person. They could confirm that information with a public record search and publish the person’s name.
I did not say it would be ethical.
And 4Chan has a screen capture of CNN’s bragging - CNN’s “article” about this guy is posted ahead of it’s North Korea coverage and titled, “How CNN Found the Reddit User behind the Trump wrestling GIF.” I think CNN is working hard at intentionally trying to chill dissent, “See what we did to this guy’s anonymity? Would you like that to happen to you, too?”
You post on FREE REPUBLIC.
This is an anonymous website where 99.9% of the folks here don’t give out their real name and real information.
Would you be okay with someone posting your name, home address, telephone number, and those of your nearest half dozen relatives if you happen to post something that President Trump quotes?
Didn’t think so.
You should be fighting for privacy for online participants and against the evil fake news CNN for threatening people for exercising their free speech rights, shouldn’t you?
[[Maybe if he is a kid, but if he is an adult, they can reveal the name.]]
They might the right to release someone’s name but they do not the right coerce him into doing something under the threat of releasing his name . On top of that it’s a minor.
There are very exceptions that you even make a deal minor without their guardians. This is way over the line if it happened the way the article says it did.
“CNN could knock on their neighborss door and ask the name of that person. They could confirm that information with a public record search and publish the persons name.”
CONGRATULATIONS. You win Troll of the Month Award!
If they would have done just that, it wouldn’t be a problem.
Well, it might be if he is a minor.
But, that is not what is happening. CNN is threatening him. Do what we “like” or else we will release your name.
No, just a tedious little self-appointed progressive hall monitor, FR has several.
Hint: The Left only has as much power as we allow them.
Tell them to go pound sand.
This is all political theater.
No sane person could view this as anything other than what it was; A harmless, funny political cartoon.
Amen for 4Chan /pol/. Cnn deserves all they can get on this one.
If a media organization uses legal means to reveal the identity of a person involved in a legitimate news story, they are free to do so.
BTW-There is no privacy on the internet.
There is a First Amendment.
4chan is the Star Wars Bar of the Internet
It appears the #CNNBlackmail victim is a 15 year old kid. Will he become the new “clock boy”???
I recognize that there is a line between ethical behavior and behavior that is illegal.
I never did say that CNN would be acting in an ethical manner.
Timpana’s?.....Someone from Utah. Maybe Provo? Heber City? American Fork? Salt Lake City?
A decent analogy, but I don’t recall the denizens of that bar in Star Wars turning into a relentless and vindictive hive mind when angered. The Chans certainly do, and there are more than just 4Chan.
Did CNN have a right to publish Clock Boy’s real name?
