On its website, South Korean state news agency Yonhap cited South Korea's military as saying an unidentified ballistic missile launched from a location near the North's border with China at 9:40 a.m. local time. South Korean President Moon Jae-in ordered a National Security Council meeting after the launch, Yonhap reported, citing the Blue House the South's equivalent of the White House.

I was not in that loop, but I got the impression that Clinton’s “peace dividend” in the 90s downgraded our Cold War detection and surveillance capabilities a big bunch. Don’t know if W corrected any of that, but Obama certainly didn’t.
My father served in Korean war back in the early 1950’s while in the USAF. Two years in Vietnam also. Never once heard him complain about what he had to do.
He’s still hanging in there at 87. Sharp as a tack.
“Those who know won’t talk, those who don’t know, have no such restriction.”
Sounds about right. I am guessing ( since I don’t know) that the ability to know if a missile has a nuclear war head attached has to do with gathered intelligence.
Agree. Putting off the inevitable will only make this problem increasingly more difficult to deal with. Once they have solved the bomb delivery problem, it will be a game changer that will alter the casualty scenario by millions.
Daisy Cutters are nice — especially the newer, bigger ones. And they seem like nuclear explosions.
I had also thought of threatening the NK military. But intel seems to indicate [based on public knowledge] that the entire nation is heavily indoctrinated to worship whatever Kim Dong Il [whatever] is currently lording it over them. Maniacal devotion like a cult.
‘Putting off the inevitable will only make this problem increasingly more difficult to deal with.’
Right. There comes a point when our own specialized development/tech begins to run out of fresh ideas as well as intel gathering. When we reach such a point there should be no procrastination.
‘I think the Chinese will take him out; no one will handle Kim unless it is done by them and them alone.’
So you think they are working on tech right now to do it? They are building things for this purpose? Or placing agents to launch a coup etc?
The marines had their act together in Korea. Was he there during MacArthur’s time? Army or marines?
Why should the Norks in charge ever give up or stand down? How many would be tried for crimes against humanity and either spend the rest of their lives in horrible prisons or be executed? I just can’t see killing the leader making any difference. There are too many living too well to consider giving up power when the alternative is death or imprisonment. Not that it shouldn’t happen if we can do it.

Nikki Haley calls for a special UN session for tomorrow to discuss NK situation.
I think the Chinese are currently trying ot figure out how to get the situation under control. Never forget that the Asian mentality is drastically different and both the Chinese and Norks are experts at reading people and figuring out how each other’s minds work. Throw in the fact that Kim is a sadist and skilled at targeting the right people to keep the others in line. I am certain that Kim is aware of the fact that the Chinese can take him out, but won’t do it if it means that the Chinese are viewed as following the orders of President Trump.
Trump NEEDS to stop with the very public bombast and negotiate with the Chinese quietly to prevent any perception of him (Trump) dictating to the Chinese and causing the Chinese to lose face. As long as there is a risk of being viewed as the employee of the US, the Chinese leadership will not act against Kim.
The left will blame Trump for this.
WOW!Looks like we cant do anything aginst a ICBM. Kim has the advantage. We will only atack when he takes out a U.S.
“Trump NEEDS to stop with the very public bombast and negotiate with the Chinese quietly to prevent any perception of him (Trump) dictating to the Chinese and causing the Chinese to lose face.” [and let China solve North Korea.]
On the other hand, is China stalling him? Procrastinating?
Maybe Trump has intel about China’s intentions that we don’t have?
‘We will only atack when he takes out a U.S. [target].’
Right. Time is our enemy on this. Patton often spoke of the Unforgiving Minute. With nuclear and EMP threats the unforgiving minute is FAR less forgiving than during WWII.
One minute too late, and they will be capable of wiping out a major US target.
Likely, but I disagree with his very public approach.
