There is a perfectly legitimate argument to be made that the President of the United States should just sit back and take all attacks and insults hurled his way, even when the magnitude of the attacks is unprecedented.
Donald Trump has chosen to ignore that philosophy.
In case people arent aware by now, when Donald Trump is attacked, he fights back, even when he probably shouldnt.
Whether its a war hero like John McCain, the parents of a war hero like Humayun Khan, or just some morning talk show hosts, Mr. Trump feels the need to retaliate for criticism against him because the criticism against him is almost never benign.
And whether he is right or wrong, lets not pretend that he is always the aggressor. In fact, President Trump may deserve some credit for virtually never attacking anyone without provocation. Dare I say, Donald Trump may be the most civil politician in history. Ok, thats a stretch. But as ruthless and vulgar as his attacks may be, he is almost always the counter-puncher.
Make no mistake, Donald Trumps supposedly vicious attacks are always in response to vicious attacks against him. He does not retaliate with personal attacks against people who simply question his policy proposals. He responds to very personal and offensive attacks like questioning his mental stability, calling him crazy and deranged. Those are not benign, policy-based critiques of the President.
Had one never caught a single moment of news until yesterday, they might be inclined to think that Donald Trump savagely attacked some poor woman for absolutely no reason at all.
The news coverage seemed to omit that the alleged victim of Donald Trumps tweet, Mika Brzezinski, appears to have essentially dedicated her professional life to personally attacking Donald Trump. And those defending her are naive enough to believe that she is not at fault in any way.
Calling Trump stupid and crazy isnt a horrible personal attack, its just a fact because, lets face it, Republicans are stupid and crazy, right? So, why would someone retaliate with a horrible tweet just because someone pointed out the obvious truth about them? That is how this deranged thinking goes.
Republicans have been the victims of bullying for years. They are bullied by the press. They are bullied by the entertainment industry. They are bullied by other politicians. And they have always taken the high road. They have always backed down.
But in Trump, for the first time in history, Republicans may have an individual who has decided to refuse to back down. He has refused to turn the other cheek. The press is the bully and Donald Trump is punching them straight in the nose.
The difference between Donald Trump and other politicians is that he just says, in front of millions, what others wait until theyre behind closed doors to say. This may be a character trait unbecoming of a president or it may be one soon to be embraced by others.
As childish as he started it might sound, at least it is almost always the truth. It may be legitimate to criticize some of the rhetoric Trump uses in his personal feuds but it is a safe bet that he was not the initial antagonist.
So again, if you want to argue that the president should just take the criticism, then that is a separate argument. But dont act as if he is doing this without provocation.
On CNNs State of the Union last December, Jake Tapper criticized Donald Trumps use of Twitter to attack his critics. Tapper questioned whether Trumps tactics represented presidential behavior. Trump senior adviser Kellyanne Conway responded that he is the President-elect, so thats presidential behavior.
Historically speaking, Donald Trumps behavior may not be presidential. But as Conway pointed out, at least for the next three and a half years, that is about to change.
Obviously, President Trump will not be able to respond to all of his critics, even in 140 characters or less. But that doesnt mean he wont try. Is it presidential behavior? It is now.
1. None of our Republican Presidents have done well with taking the beating from the MSM.
2. If I were a foreign head of state and had nefarious plans for the US, his fighting abilities and determination would give me pause. Because this guy, if he were attacked or his country was attacked, would take Cincinatti’s plea as a battle plan: “Cartago delenda est!”.
I’m willing to bet Trump would lay off personal tweets if elected Republicans would simply push back against the media with anything like the vigor he does. They don’t have to be “mean” or personal. Just call them out on their BS and counter with facts and simple truth.
“If she has one more face lift she'll have a goatee.”
Why are two people who are going to be married even allowed to be on the same ‘news’ show everyday?
CHINESE PROVERB: WHEN THE WISE MAN POINTS AT THE MOON, THE FOOL LOOKS AT THE FINGER
Bush took it lying down.
Trump fights fire with fire.
Result: libs cry in their (lite) beer.
Boo hoo.
How did that work out for W?
Go git 'em, President Trump!
Thanks to OneVike for the above.
Until the Enquirer comes out: The Morning Ho Show and her pimp, Joe!
Bush just sat there and took it and never said a word, Look where that got him...nowhere
I like that trump is a fighter. the libs deserve to be fought. They are barely better than Stalinists these days.
I appreciate the writer reminding that Trump never started the malicious remarks. That was made clear during the gazillion debates.
Mika started this. She knows it, and it’s fifteen hours every week. She’s an actress, not an intellectual.

What is unpredented are the attacks from the elite in all forms of media and entertainment upon an elected President and his supporters. Their problem isn’t so much Trump as it is the people who elected him. 8 months later and they are still pitching their fit. In the process they are keeping the base which elected him energized and making Trump an absolute LEGEND.
Ops rhymes with cops, oops rhymes with hoops.
ops again...
Again... ops rhymes with cops, oops rhymes with hoops.
Megain has a contract to make more money in one year than I will make in a lifetime with three degrees. She is detestable but certainly has not lost.
To those who say the President should just go “stiff upper lip” and ignore attacks, I submit the following:
“George W. Bush”
That worked REAL well when he tried it, didn’t it?
Most have said it is unbecoming a president
Because previous presidents have set such high standards of conduct.
McCain was a war hero then. Now he is not a war hero, he is a small minded, petty man who is an obstacle sitting in the Senate.
