Gender identity can change on a whim, but it must be deeply honored at all times.
Private thought — like private property — is theft.
I know someone who enjoys conversations like this:
She: "It's a nice day."
Me: "Yes, it is a nice day."
She: "What do you mean? It's cloudy! If it were nice, we wouldn't have these clouds!"
Me: "Yes, I guess it is sort of cloudy."
She: "Well, the sky is blue over there! You can't complain just because of that one cloud!"
Me: "I guess it's sort of mixed."
She: "Mixed? Are you crazy? It's a nice day!"
If gender identity changes on a whim, some people will simply be impossible to talk to. Which is fine.
I teach classes at a California college. We're beginning to get emails now from 'newer' employees, which are being signed as follows (thankfully our existing faculty have not felt pressured to mimic this idiocy yet - but it's clear there's a campaign on to mainstream it):
