Walmart is moving that direction only they don’t have the
scanners to read your items as you walk out the door. But
they are reducing the number of checkouts with a human in
them. They are going to self scan or as they call it “Scan &
Go”. They will take cash or cards but you can’t pay by check.
“For every one second in average transaction time at the Walmart U.S. chain, the company said it spends about $12 million in cashier wages.”
