Although I don't think this will be limited to fast food industry. I am sure we will see it across many industries.
I’d consider going back to a McDonald’s if I can order my meal through a kiosk instead of trying to communicate with some half-witted millennial who is barely paying attention and is certain to screw it up completely even after I repeat what I want 3 times.
Seattle brought the future to us a little earlier!
(with their $15 minimum wage)
And so the “Fight for $15” enters the expected phase.....
That being said, I have no doubt it’s very difficult to deal with the public. Disclaimer, yes, I’m white, LOL.
I saw a white woman act like a jerk because she accidentally got cheese on a burger and she shoved it into the face of the young black kid at McD right in front of me (just up the road).
I told the manager and another coworker not to give him any trouble - he handled it well. I would not have blamed him if he shoved it into her face. There was no call for that. I would not have let that kid go down for her being a jerk, that’s for certain.
2,500? Wow!
Start with every outlet where the minimum wage is 15 an hour.
There have been others doing this for some time. All McDonalds or others are
doing is letting the customer punch the buttons specifying the order instead of
telling the order to a worker and letting the worker punch the buttons.
A friend of mine from Thailand tells me relatives in Boston will be closing their restaurant. The new $15.00 an hour minimum wage has killed the place which had been open a long time.
I don’t know why anyone thought the $15 minimum wage would hurt fast food. Looks like it’s the impetus to streamline and cut costs. Oopsie!
I’m not germphobic, but can you imagine how unbelievably NASTY those kiosts are going to be? Little booger eaters swiping their slime all over it...
I’d generally not be supportive of this at a time when folks need jobs in this nation, even low paying ones.
Unfortunately the Left has worked it’s magic once again, and so fast food joints had no other option.
I’m not sure how many employees this will really save a fast food joint, because someone will still have to pick the order, and someone else will have to deliver to the table.
It would be interesting to see some figures on that.
The age-old question: when all the workers are replaced by robots, who will buy the hamburgers (and cars, and computers and shoes etc. etc.)?
Service can only improve. Now if they could improve the quality.
Gone is the language barrier and wrong orders!
$15 an hour didn’t bring it on but it surely expedited it. Now the remaining burger flippers need to push for $30.
CNN’s headline about this will read: McDonald’s laying off workers at 2500 restaurants nationwide.
“I can’t help but wonder how soon until the rest of the fast food restaurants follow this trend.”
Not just fast food, most jobs will follow this trend.
The BOTTOM LINE for those of you on the Left (i.e., the Soros bunch that is paid to monitor us) is that if you Leftists DEMAND that places like McDonald’s pay $15/hour, then the jobs remaining will be worth $15/hour, and the jobs worth less will become ‘kiosks’.
By the way, these kiosks are great overseas, where you can usually order in English...regardless of whether the workers there speak a word of it.
McDonald’s is effectively dead all ready, in the medium and long term time frames.
Phone applications like Yelp and TripAdvisor allow consumers to see reviews of locally owned restaurants which do not have the overhead of a franchise and find the good ones.
