When the full returns are counted, Republicans here will have to ask themselves why the race was so close in a community that Mitt Romney won by 23 points in 2012, and also what Handel did right to keep her own fortunes separate and apart from Donald Trumps Tweet storms.
But Democrats will have more soul searching to do. They are now zero-for-four in special elections since Trump became the president and need to understand why.
Theyll be quick to say the Ossoff race never should have been so close, which is true. And that Ossoff won in a sense just by being competitive in an R+10 district, which is sort of true.
But after $23 million, a candidate who genuinely ignited the grassroots, and a Republican president who may or may not be (but probably is) under FBI investigation and cant stop talking about it, the real question Democrats need to answer is: Whats it going to take to win an election in the era of Trump?
As of Tuesday night, they still have no idea.

Yes, their Ossoff from a hole in the ground...............
A lot of people aren’t seeing what’s really going on, they’re just happy he lost. That district has always been SOLID RED. Part of that district covers East Cobb County, which has ALWAYS been RED. The last election, Cobb Cty, went for Hillary. Lots of Northerners have moved down South, for all the explicable reasons....taxes, quality of life, housing. Throw in gay couples moving out of the city and into the suburbs and a substantial demographic shift is taking place, in once traditionally RED areas.
The Facebook page for, East Cobb Democrats, has as its tagline....Kickin East Cobb to the Left, one precinct at a time. And what are they doing to their, once urban strongholds, backfiring them with immigrants and hipsters, keeping those areas BLUE.
While I may be way off, but it appears to me that when immigrants &* refugees are resettles in this country, they always seem to end up in Republican districts. Don’t every really see them ending up in the liberal, urban strongholds...IE Virginia Highlands in Atlanta or the City of Decatur, Ga
People seem to forget that he almost won that seat, outright, a few months ago. Even with their tricks, the Dem’s still lost, but not by that much. And with a few more Northerners settling down there, that seat will be Blue, before long. That’s just the facts.
Col West, sums it up nicely....

Oh yeah, two loudmouths!!!!
Besides that, Kamala Harris wants to be President, not VP!!!! With her complete lack of qualifications, she would be another obama! PHOOEY!!!!
“There is nothing that the left will win, as the Nations people have finally realized how morally bankrupt the left is”
They are morally bankrupt, but they never ever stop trying to portray themselves as morally superior.
They also never stop trying to change the culture to fit their morality, so they don’t have to try and hide so much.
Conservatives need to challenge them on this much more aggressively. They are loons who just need help being shown in the proper light.
If I lived in that GA district I would have resented the out-of-state donations so much that, even if I was a Dem,I would not have voted for him.
.
I suggest they stick with their plan ,,, it’s working for me ,,, perhaps they COULD double down to increase the speed of their demise .
I promise I can tell the Democrats how to win, starting right now. They have tried everything else and it hasn’t worked. Come and talk to me in person.
And how much was fund raising by outside groups using this race as an excuse to solicit?
I think a whole lot of this money doesn’t actually end up anywhere but in the poltical consultants pockets.
The Democrats must be nuts to think a liberal pajama boy who didn’t live in the District, espousing open borders and higher taxes and backed by $23 million in donations from out of state liberal loons including Hollywood could win this race.
Dems subsist on solely two “issues” - identity politics and spending taxpayer money to purchase votes. They are bankrupt when it comes to solutions on real issues.
It was $50 million not $23 million and the dumb twit should have aligned herself more closely with Mr Trump instead of pushing him away. We are lucky to have won this.
Yep. Even at the most conservative figure that money could have bought 2 million MAGA hats for America's schoolchildren, and that's assuming the Dems paid retail, which they're dumb enough to do.
Love your list of helpful suggestions and may I add they must continue to insist that nuns provide birth control for their sisters, Christians must write pro sodomy expressions and host sodomy celebrations or lose their livelihood, rioters must be protected, and police deserve to be shot. Also anyone who defends his own life is a racist.
Just think how many Abortions, HIV Vaccinations, and Gender Reassignments won’t get funded.
Ms. Murphy jumps to FULL LIBTARD. She excoriates the Repubs for doing exactly what Obama did when he got Obamacare passed. Good when they do it; evil when we do it. LOL!
Cleveland Browns would beat the Dems if the Dems were an NFL team. So far, Dems you are 0 for 5. Next year, try something new - by running real Americans.
I started following President Trump's tweets about a month or so ago. At that time, he had 24.2 million followers. As of today, he has 32.6 - and they can't all be 'bots.
At some point it will level off and even decline a bit, and the the Media will be shouting from the rooftops that he is losing his base.
Jon Ossoff came in third, after #RodneyStooksbury. Karen Handel, 134,595, Rodney Stooksbury, 124,917, Jon Ossoff, 124,893.
Rodney Stooksbury ran against Tom Price in November 2016.
He literally had no campaign - nobody knew who he was, nor did he have any signs out.
