New York (CNN) As polls opened for a highly anticipated congressional runoff election in Georgia Tuesday, Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff demurred when asked by CNN's Alisyn Camerota about the race's national implications.
"The contrast in this district is between a career politician -- my opponent, Karen Handel, who is notorious for cutting off funding for life-saving breast cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood -- or a fresh voice who wants to work across the aisle to get things done, grow our local economy, (and) work to make health care more accessible and affordable for women and folks with pre-existing conditions," he said on "New Day."
"Out-of-state money has poured in on both sides. It's become a little bit of an arms race," the Democrat admitted. "I'm proud of the fact that my campaign is powered by small-dollar grassroots fundraising of an average contribution of less than $50 while my opponent's campaign has been bailed out by the same old special-interest super PACs peddling deception, fear-mongering and hate here in Georgia for months now."
"You want to see this race as about you against Karen Handel," Camerota pushed. "Understood. You've worked hard. But do you not see the national implications of this race, do you not think it's at all a referendum on Donald Trump?"

But watch her drop it like a hot coal, if Handel wins.
Sounds like some bad internal polling to me.
When ossoff loses by 3, the left still won’t understand.
Oh, you betcha...
I thought it was a lie that Planned Parenthood does breast cancer screening.
Handel is getting some good voters boosts on the issues. Ossoff....not so much...
^^ this
His consultants are probably telling him that while he is a bit ahead in the early vote, he has to fear the 30,000 or so Republicans who did not vote either early or in the preliminary round because if they show up today it could be the margin of victory for Handel. So, Ossoff smartly doesn’t want to offend them by making it a national “referendum” on Trump at this stage. I guarantee, however, that if he were to win, it would be his mantra for the evening.
But this little Lefty will be in possession of a millions in cash that Hollywood and the DNC have donated to the twerp. Not a bad racket for someone who doesn’t even live in the GA 6th district.
This is a good sign that Ossoff knows already that he will lose.
If Handel wins tonight (and I believe she will), there will be radio silence from the MSM on this race and we will never hear about Ossoff again.
“If Handel wins tonight (and I believe she will), there will be radio silence from the MSM on this race and we will never hear about Ossoff again.”
You can say that again. It will simply be forgotten, then on the next race.
So DNC's Tom Perez is coaching Ossoff to speak w/ a New England accent and is force-feedng Jon bowls of "clam chowdah."
Perez told Ossoff to tell Georgian voters he lives in a "compound" and that he has eight brothers and sisters that play touch football.
Jon is also retooling his "Cuber" policy.
LOL!
Handel cut money for Planned Parenthood, the chief advocates for Late Term ABORTION!
“I thought it was a lie that Planned Parenthood does breast cancer screening.”
Most of the PR coming out of PP is a lie and they know, the media knows it and the politicians who support them know it! But that doesn’t stop them from repeating it constantly because most of the general population believes every word they say!!
Bah, the national media has given billions of dollars of free publicity to Ossuff.
But they pretend that doesn’t matter so they can create their ‘narrative’.
dont be so sure, this is the state that sent US Jimmy after all... i believe he won every district in this state.
It is a lie. James O'Keefe's group called or visited over 400 PP clinics asking for prenatal care or mammograms. they were told consistently that PP did not offer those services. One lady who answered the phone said "we do abortions here, that's all we do".
Yeah. He must be losing.
