I have serious questions about the dementia situation. A cousin was diagnosed with vascular dementia, after a serious illness during which he was put on aggressive pain medication. The thing is, they kept him on the pain medication after there was no serious pain. His wife got a second opinion, where that analyst speculated that a large problem might be those pain killers.

He's home, leading a relatively normal life. I'm thinking the pain killers did some permanent damage.

I'm thinking it through. If his wife hadn't gotten a second opinion, he'd still be on pain killers in a nursing home and probably 100% sunk into "vascular dementia". Next step....starve these people to death?

After that, the only pain killer I'll ever take is blackberry brandy. I'd rather have a hangover than be diagnosed with dementia!

This is anecdotal, of course. Since this has happened I've paid closer attention to those in their 60s and over who are on pain killers. I want to for myself develop an informed opinion about if pain killers cause memory loss.
