Shock report: MRI nearly killed Chuck Norris' wife Gena
Washington Examiner ^ | 6/10/17 | Paul Bedard

TV's action hero Chuck Norris finally faced a villain he couldn't beat -- and it almost killed his wife.

According to Sunday's edition of Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson, Gena Norris nearly died from complications after having MRIs several years ago.

In the report, Gena Norris said that the heavy metal gadolinium injected in her to enhance the MRI images lingered in her body for years and caused burning pain. Repeated tests were unable to locate the cause.

(video at link)

"I just heard that still small voice deep inside of me that said, Gena your body is dying. And I walked out of the bathroom and he just took one look at me and he knew; I'm about to lose my wife," said Gena Norris.

Chuck Norris told Attkisson, "I saw death in her eyes. I saw her dying and I said you know I've got to do something."

The problems began after she had three MRIs in one week to evaluate her rheumatoid arthritis.

"I was in the emergency room for like 5 or 6 nights in a row and the symptoms had continued to get worse and worse. And by the fourth, fifth, sixth night, the burning just kept traveling and I would go in and they'd say, well what's wrong with you? And I'm like I, I don't know. I don't feel good. And I'm just, I'm burning. All I can tell you is I'm burning all over. I feel like I have acid everywhere in my tissues, I'm just, I'm on fire," she said.

While the Food and Drug Administration said there is no evidence of poisoning, it is investigating reports of chronic pain and other symptoms to determine if "there are any potential adverse health effects," Attkisson reported.

For Chuck Norris, the feeling helplessness was horrible.

Chuck Norris: "Well it's the helpless feeling, you know cause I'm kind of a take charge guy, and then here I have something where I cannot do anything and it was, it was horrifying and, and uh, I just thank, thank God that we were able to weather it and that she did get better and I got my wife back."

The show airs Sunday on Sinclair stations nationwide, and is streamed live on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. at www.fullmeasure.news.

“I’ve never had an MRI.
I guess they are good for somethings but I wonder how we ever did without them they are used so frequently.”

**********

Before MRIs it was almost impossible to accurately diagnose MS. One of the tests was to put a person in an extremely hot bath and see if any of their limbs quit working. Gadolinium highlights the MS lesions making them easy to identify. Between an MRI and Lumbar Puncture I was diagnosed after seeing a MS specialist for the first time. My uncle, back in the 70’s, went to Dr after Dr and they couldn’t give a definitive answer to what his problem was but finally decided it was MS. Unfortunately there really wasn’t any treatment other than steroids for it back then.

Yes, I’m well aware. Does Gd deposit in tissue? I don’t know if it escapes the vascular network.

Those who are not claustrophobic cannot understand the anxiety that such an experience brings just as I cannot imagine the panic of those who have phobias about snakes or spiders.

Perhaps it is an idiosyncratic reaction. I also pondered the frequency of the dosing. Or, it could be something unrelated to the Gd.

Best I know Gad is a metal and therefore think can deposit in tissue. I think magnesium does too.

Try to walk a mile or two every day and do some stretching exercises. Also, cut sugar out of your diet because of its strong pro-inflammatory effect. I hope you see a century in good health.

I am claustrophobic and regard my full-body MRI as the most horrific experience of my life.

I am NOT claustrophobic and have had many MRIs and my first and only "freakout" experience was when I needed a head scan and was fitted for the first time with a "silence of the lambs" mask. Managed it with very little effort the second time.

The contrast agent is chelated Gd, making it water soluble and filtered out of the plasma by the kidney into the urine. But, you are right many metals in other forms do deposit in tissues, especially the liver and kidney. I have done too many mass balance experiments in pig models to remember.

Well, hopefully you’re well off enough that you won’t have to go through that again.

How many were killed by reaction to the dye for an arterial angiogram? I know two people myself. One dead, the other vegetable.

Vision and Gastro get me right off the bat.
Marijuana: safer than opioids?
http://www.thetimesherald.com/story/news/local/2017/06/09/marijuana-safer-than-opioids/381344001/

CDC is taking comments. commission@ondcp.eop.gov

This in mine:
Dear Staff, Presidential Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis.

I am a chronic pain patient diagnosed with OA/OP/SPINAL DEGENERATION ALL DOWN MY SPINE, PERIPHERAL NEPHROPATHY OF ARMS, AND LEGS, FIBROMYALGIA, GASTROPARESIS, HYPOTHYROIDISM, HAND PAIN, BURSITIS OF THE HIPS, ENLARGED HEART WITH SMALL LEAKY VALVE, a ton of side effects from the medications used to treat those conditions some have caused ER trips for A-Fib in the case of OP drugs. I had been managed on opioid medications and Valium at two 20 MG tablets per day for 10 years, with major improvement to my function and quality of life. But with the advent of the Gastroparesis, I had to stop the use of Opioids as they shut my bowel down. But continue the use of the Valium that lowers my FMS and PN pain and also controls Meneire’s attacks, so it is a 3 health issue medication. Meclizine does NOT work for me.

I have major pain every day. But without the Valium I would be totally disabled and the pain would be unbearable. Even normal daily hygiene is painful. Nothing else has worked for me and my doctor has tried almost everything. I’ve discarded 11 Peripheral Neuropathy drugs including the HIGHLY ADDICTIVE LYRICA and NEUROTIN for MAJOR SIDE EFFECTS. I am basically home bound except for trips to 6 specialist. And I’m seeing a hand ORTHO on the 15th of June to see if he can repair the major damage of Atrophy and nerve damage in my right hand.

I live in daily fear that my doctor will be forced to stop treating my pain, by the arbitrary and ill-founded policies of our government and the CDC, enforced by the bogus drug war witch hunt conducted by the DEA. Most of which is ILLEGAL drugs laced with manufactured Fenyatal or stolen Fenyatal. Not to mention the myriad of other ILLEGAL drugs that pore across our OPEN BORDERS via Mexico from China and the M. E. Why didn’t they burn those Poppy fields when we went into Iraq and Afghanistan, why are they still allowed to grow the stuff and import it into the USA and use it as money to kill people via terrorist acts in the name of their religion?

Patients like me are committing suicide in increasing numbers because of denial of effective medical care. And they are just chalked up to another OD.

DO NOT MAKE ME ONE OF THEM!

If the US government is to deal with the opioid epidemic, the first thing you must realize is that managed prescriptions to chronic pain patients didn’t cause the problem. And torturing us by denial of care will only make the mess worse when we must go into the street to get pain relief.

I am NOT an addict, even if I must depend on Valium and occasionally on NORCO just to live with my pain. The most reliable predictors for addiction are status as an adolescent (an age when few people are treated for pain I turn 68 in August), a history of family trauma, or a period of prolonged unemployment. These are social problems, not medical ones.

Please take action to require withdrawal of the March 2016 CDC guidelines for prescription of opioids. The guidelines are biased, scientifically invalid, and actively dangerous to patients and as public policy.

Sincerely,

They do full spine now, all at the same time, cheaper than doing 3 separate sections. They only do 1, if that is all they need. Not all are radiologist read though, had cervical/lumbar, only the lumbar had a report, though cervical was just as degenerative and painful pinching many nerve bundles in spine.

Because they use a BLOOD TEST FOR RA diagnosis? NOT A MRI, that is more BACK, Rotator Cuff tears that don’t show on Ex-rays. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/rheumatoid-arthritis/diagnosis-treatment/diagnosis/dxc-20197396

I’ve had the FULL Rhumey routine for Years, and that is the first 1 they ruled out with just a Blood Test, it shows in a simple blood test.

Request the OPEN MRI...so much better. The noise gets me worse than the enclosed space and having to lie on a degenerative spine. OR that torn Rotator Cuff.

I’ll be 68 in August, and I sit on a stool in the tub. If I got fully into it I’d not get out. Total spine degeneration. Hands hurt so bad even brushing teeth is a hr of pain.
