Trump Pitches Solar-Panel Border Wall Where Generated Electricity Could Be Used To Pay For Cost

Axios reported that Trump floated the idea that the new border wall could be covered in solar panels and the electricity generated used to pay for the cost.

"Trump said his vision was a wall 40 feet to 50 feet high and covered with solar panels so they'd be "beautiful structures," the people said. The President said that most walls you hear about are 14 feet or 15 feet tall but this would be nothing like those walls. Trump told the lawmakers they could talk about the solar-paneled wall as long as they said it was his idea. One person cautioned that the President wasn't presenting the solar-paneled wall as the definite solution."

Since the solar panels will be facing south, we would be using Mexican sunshine to power them so Mexico would be paying for it AND it will be 'environmentally-friendly'. So it's a win, win, win.

Bruce Blakeman of Sustainable Technology, Inc. provides insight about the solar powered border wall proposal President Trump allegedly told Congressional GOP leaders about this week.

I imagine that the panels would have to be on the south side, where they would make fine aimed projectile targets for disgruntled invaders.

Hate to say it, because I like the idea, but what would you give it, about five minutes before bullet holes would mar the finished product?

Pretty smart idea. Except solar panels can be pretty pricey, but I imagine Trump could negotiate the price down :-).

It is mostly only the police and the cartels that have guns in Mexico.

Imagine self targeting solar death rays that can return fire automatically.

Yeah, I’m afraid I immediately wonder about sabotage. It’s a terrific idea in principle, so long as the details work. But would angry mobs pelt the thing with rocks etc. (but they’d probably have to do this for many miles to have much of an impact on overall power generation???)

It’s an amusing idea. Unfortunately, solar panels would not pay for themselves, let alone pay for the wall as well.

And, as pointed out, they would be an obvious target for angry stone throwers.

I would expect them both to be shooting at the wall.

In the real world the one and only reason every commercial solar farm isn’t bankrupt is the government subsidies. So I can’t see it paying for anything quick.

Why don’t they put bicycles hooked to generators. Then they could use the illegals to pedal their way to freedom.

Hell yeah. While we’re at it pass a law that anyone who perishes trying to circumvent legal border crossings will be used as fertilizer. Now that’s green thinking right there. Between composting and solar maybe we have a winner. /kind of sarc tag.

Make the wall a 1700 mile long nuclear reactor.
