The fact is that Comey and his senior leadership agreed not to inform Sessions about what went on in that meeting speaks volumes. It indicates that this was a setup.

The overall message I take away from Comey is that he genuinely personally (and perhaps because of political biases) distrusted Trump right from the start. What I think you are inferring is correct... he wanted to get Trump on a gotcha even if he had to lead him into it.
I say again what I said yesterday. Why in the hell wouldn’t he just inform Trump that he was out of line, right off the bat?
If I was a newb to politics like Trump is and I wasn’t a lawyer and I was new to the office of the President, I would want people to be candid with me on matters like this.
Once AGAIN..it would be UNWISE not to listen to outside counsel..
and it would border on malpractice if outside counsel is telling him to post willy nilly on twitter on these matters.

The upside is that Comey is not very likeable and tends not to inspire trust. The MSM have also shot their credibility by being pathologically anti-Trump. Comey is not hurting Trump, nor will the MSM followup. Trump will come out of this with flying colors.

A key point here is that Trump saying he hoped Comey can let this go could just be Trump’s emotional response to the investigation of Flynn—just Trump’s feeling about it. That kind of statement is not necessarily a direction to Comey or the FBI. It all depends on perception.
Wah!!! He had to break a date with his wife to accept the dinner invitation. All he had to say was I’m sorry Mr. President, but I would not feel comfortable coming to dinner, nothing personal, but I’d prefer not to accept dinner at the White House from any President.
