Theresa May has said Donald Trump's criticism of Sadiq Khan in the wake of the London Bridge terror attack was "wrong".
But the PM said the US president's state visit would still go ahead.
Mr Khan, the mayor of London, has called for it to be cancelled - as has Lib Dem leader Tim Farron.
Mr Trump attacked Mr Khan on Twitter after the mayor told Londoners not to be alarmed about an increased police presence following Saturday's attack.
The London mayor said Mr Trump was wrong about "many things" and that his state visit, expected to take place later this year, should not go ahead.

To Khan its no big deal UK gets attacked as often as he changes his sox.
Trump thought Khan is not worried, he has a protection detail but the UK folks don’t and can’t even buy a pistol for self protection.
I don’t like our leader attacked right after his prayers and condolences were sent to Brits.

Given the obvious disdain held for Trump and we, his voters, what makes them think he would agree to come? The pacifists that dominate the leadership of all their parties have basically surrendered to the jhihadis turning their backs on their prime duty to keep their countrymen safe just to keep from being accused of islamiphobia. What the jhihadi’s are doing is similar to what Ghandi did by turning the UK’s laws and morals against them. Except they are using violence to accelerate the process and Ghandi was non-violent. Will the country that gave the world the magna carta ultimately surrender to a 6th century ideology squandering a proud history? Stay tuned.
