CNN) -- A 25-year-old federal contractor is accused of leaking classified information regarding a 2016 Russian military intelligence cyberattack to an online news outlet.
The Justice Department announced charges on Monday against Reality Leigh Winner, a contractor with Pluribus International Corporation in Georgia. She is accused of "removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet," according to a federal complaint.
Who is Reality Winner?
-- Winner is a federal contractor with Top Secret security clearance. She had been assigned to a US government agency facility in Georgia since February 13.
-- She is accused of leaking classified information, used as the basis for an article published Monday by The Intercept, detailing a classified National Security Agency memo. The NSA report, dated May 5, provides details of a 2016 Russian cyberattack on a US voting software supplier, though there is no evidence that any votes were affected by the hack.
-- Winner was a linguist in the US Air Force in Maryland who speaks Pashto, Farsi and Dari, her mother, Billie Winner said.
-- She was raised in Kingsville, Texas, and served in the Air Force in Columbia, Maryland. Her mother confirmed she was a federal contractor in Augusta but did not know the nature of her work, or if she had contracted for the NSA.
-- Winner is an athlete who loves animals, her mother said, through tears.
-- She also said her daughter wasn't especially political and hadn't ever praised past leakers like Edward Snowden to her.
-- "She's never ever given me any kind of indication that she was in favor of that at all," her mother said. "I don't know how to explain it."
-- Winner spent six years in the military, said Titus Nichols, her court-appointed attorney.

No, and no need to either. Winner admitted she knew taking the material was illegal, she admitted she knew sending it to "The Intercept" was illegal, and she admitted both acts.
There is plenty of case law on the subject of mishandling classified information. The reason crooked Hillary escapes is lack of will and selective enforcement on the part of the DoJ.
She’s a cunning linguist.
Well...as it turns out, this Winner is a real loser....
Instead of Reality Winner, her name should be Reality Example.
I once knew a person who had their security clearance yanked based on concerns over their financial stability. The person was a valuable asset to the organization and an unquestioned patriot, but they were really serious about security investigations back in those days. Not so much now.
Is “Reality Leigh Winner” a legitimate name or did she go to court to make it official?
For some reason I’m having a hard time believing she came from a long line of Winners.
She was a cunning linguist, apparently.
There are layers of incompetence and corruption, it’s the government.

Very, very true. Its not called THE SWAMP for nothing.
At least they didn’t name her Fidelity.
Quit playing games with these people. Make an example of her
My limited understanding is that military personnel self police to a large extent. If one posts something that might seem unbecoming, then a superior might say to take the post down and counsel the poster to be wiser in the future. But if the chain of command sees nothing wrong, then nothing is said until there is an incident that brings light to it all.
Who taught this young skull full of mush at language school? what about her command? What was her job? Was she ever deployed? Did she ever go to Iran or Afghanistan? Or did she simply listen to intercepted communications and never come across anything that would cause alarm?
I did peruse her Facebook briefly last night. I looked at the posts on some of her family members’ Facebook accounts as well. A person I assume is her grandmother appears conservative. Reality (My guess is she changed her name.) disagreed openly with grandma or aunt or whoever the person is to her. The daughters of semi-feminists are very misguided. Lost. Looking for guidance from anyone who isn’t a manly man.
“What is mommys name?”

What 25 year old girl doesn’t have her mother as one of her Facebook “friends” ? - I don’t believe the mother, either
I worked in an organization that had this E5 female that married this ‘idiot’. She was bright, clever, and very financially astute. Two years later, the ‘idiot’ had bankrupted the pair.
So, she’s in Intel. She’s got the TS-ticket. She goes to off-base legal and they tell her to declare bankruptcy...simple and easy. She goes to base finance, and they say the same thing after the full story (she was going to divorce ‘idiot’ by this point). So she starts the paperwork and is just about ready to go final (stamped)...when someone in her office finds out and tells security. They go nuts. If you declare bankruptcy....you lose your clearance, period. Round and round this goes for ten days.
At some point, I ask her what the magic amount of debt was. Near $75,000. How ‘idiot’ got her that deep in two years was worth a 500-page book. In the end, she did the bankruptcy paperwork, lost her clearance, and ended up a clerk over at the base clinic.
I’d say in 30 years hanging around the military.....I’ve seen a dozen folks lose their clearance, and all of those were either money issues or alcohol.
This miserable traitor needs to be quickly tried and hanged.
It will serve as an object lesson to the other leakers.
Uh, females almost ALWAYS use the poor poor pitiful me tactic. Crying, apologies, etc, etc, etc. And...if she gets a liberal judge, she WILL skate.
What else has she done? Who has she colluded with? Who prompted her to spy on her own country? I doubt she’s a lone wolf.
Based on her posted opinions on twitter, she seems to be aligned quite well with the enviro-terrorists, Antifa, and Iran. She has plenty of co-conspirators.
That’s probably the name she replaced...

If you recall, as I do, that GOFundMe wouldn't allow owners of businesses who refused to have their businesses support gay marriage use their site to generate funds for their legal defense.
But for stealing classified documents and sharing them, that is apparently OK with GOFundMe.
