Mr. Trumps more consequential eruption was against Mr. Trumps Justice Department. He was evidently responding to a segment on MSNBCs Morning Joe about his executive order temporarily suspending immigration entry from six countries with a history of terrorism.
People, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, Mr. Trump wrote. I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN! Mr. Trump added that The Justice Dept. should have stayed with the original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version they submitted to S.C.
These comments are reckless on multiple levels. The original blunderbuss order was rolled out on the Friday night of Mr. Trumps first week as President with zero public explanation and little internal vetting. White House staffers from the Steve Bannon wing preferred the stun-grenade approach, but Mr. Trumps legal team convinced him to sign a legally bulletproof revision in March because they preferred to win in court.
The new order wasnt watered down on substance but did make pragmatic exceptions for, say, permanent residents with green cards and military translators. Had the White House done such legal due diligence in the first place, the travel ban might not have become a political bonfirenot least because the President enjoys wide constitutional and statutory discretion over immigration and national security.
If Mr. Trumps action is legal on the merits, he seems to be angry that his lawyers are trying to vindicate the rule of law. Attorney General Jeff Sessions would be justified if he resigned, and this is merely the latest incident in which Mr. Trump popping off undermined his own lawyers.

Pepe Badger don’t care what the WSJ thinks.
That one is in the running for "funniest post of the day."
I do agree that he can and should say whatever he wants. The label "travel ban" is meaningless, the text and construction of the EO is at issue, not choice of mutually agreeable jargon shorthand. The judges below are political hacks, and ought to be removed from office for ludicrous and biased action under the guise of "judging." They have contributed substantially to concluding the institution is failed.
SCOTUS isn't any better, is why I find your remark humorous. This is the gang that hallucinates rights into the constitution, the right to murder the unborn, the right to homosexual marriage being a couple of recent hallucinations. Follow the constitution? Of course they assert that they do, and who are you to differ?
In the travel ban cases, every court insists (and who are you to differ?) it too is following the constitution - and EVERY court that has heard the case applies the same principle of law - when it facilitates the desired political outcome, tweets trump statutory language.
The word “president” is a noun.
The Justices are required to follow the law - not to have feelings about a President’s tweets.
There is nothing in his statement that contradicts the current executive order or that should in any way offend any Court accept a totally prejudiced leftist judge.
The President should go to the court and invite them to handle foreign policy and terrorism and to take the blood of the Innocents on their hands, something which they are totally incapable of.
The travel ban became a political bonfire because of activist Democrat judges and the Anti-American Big Media. And now we add to that a bunch of hand wringing politically correct RINOs who are afraid of their own shadow whining about Trump.
The so-called travel ban is what it is. It's a Constitutional EO that temporarily stops immigration from countries that we can't vet.
Period!
Why should the executive tiptoe around the Judiciary as if he was a personal injury plaintiff looking for a little money?
Imagine anyone believing that we don’t need to suspend travel from Iran or Syria? This is so outrageous.
He doesn't need too. The court has assumed the role of setting immigration policy based on the court's rejection of Trump's rhetoric. The courts own it now, Trump doesn't have to point it out, it's obvious.
Congress is happy about the courts (and anybody else!) setting policy, because it takes pressure and accountability off Congress, the "do nothing but take your money" institution.
Yes, plus calculating.
What's scary is that four justices will likely hold up the insane lower court opinions......
But...but, it's...it's a "travel ban"...waaah.
The EO is Constitutional. Trump said nothing wrong. The chinless hand wringers and thumb suckers on our side are hard to take. And that includes Kellyanne's spouse.
And the press is required to report the truth.
Two failed and corrupt institutions, trying to figure out how to maintain the appearance of objectivity and logic using appeal to emotion and slick rhetoric.
The courts are lucky that there hasn’t been a successful act of terrorism committed by someone that Trump would have banned.
Loss of life and there would be a lot more calls for a judge’s impeachment.
The Journal has always done that. They use the person's office title on the first mention, when they use it at all, and then use Mr. or Ms. afterwards. Besides, how many other media outlets just refer to him as "Trump"?
The travel bans were 90 days to allow for us to implement “extreme vetting”. Even without the implementation, more than 90 days have passed. Don’t we have “extreme vetting” ready regardless?
Trump twitter slap at Justice Department over travel ban reflects growing frustration with Sessions. @maggieNYT https://t.co/NFpFOuSnU3— Peter Baker (@peterbakernyt) June 6, 2017

Yes. You put your finger on it: two corrupt institutions. Will my country recover?
Fine. All planes routed to the United States carrying Nationals from the 6 listed countries will be escorted by F16 to a landing strip in the Azores where it will remain until said passengers are returned.
Tell the courts to stop that!
