> “Proverbs 13:24 . KJ21. He that spareth his rod hateth his son, but he ... He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him early.”
The go-to Bible quote for child abusers.
Big difference between discipline and abuse - not sure if you are saying the Bible helps those who want to beat their kids or if it was tongue in cheek.....anyone can twist the meaning of anything to "justify" bad behavior or even to slam productive behavior. Those on the Left who think killing/looting/rioting are valid forms of expression could have benefited greatly from early discipline.
Have to bow to your expert knowledge on that one.
For the rest of us, it's plain common sense. It's child-abuse not to discipline your child.
“Ephesians 6:4 4And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath”
The go-to Bible quote for we who have been abused.
God disciplines those He loves, too. The thing is discipline has to be just. Equal punishment. For a child to be disciplined it can save them from a lifetime of consequences. The fear of the Lord does work, as does knowing there will always be just consequences.
Remember this, too, that one verse is offset by hundreds of verses and actions of love. If you so dare, read Deuteronomy 28. When I read Leviticus after becoming a parent all I saw was the Father’s love for us. It is one of my favorite books in the Bible.
I often think about how Jesus will rule as Messhiah with a rod of iron when the prophecy given at His birth will finally come to pass. Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.
Notice the peace will be for those who follow His laws, loving Him and loving our neighbor as ourselves, because those who do so are those with whom He is pleased.
