Germany Unleashes On Trump: He Has 'Weakened' The West

Berlin (AFP) — Germany unleashed a volley of criticism Monday against US President Donald Trump, slamming his "short-sighted" policies that have "weakened the West" and hurt European interests.

The sharp words from Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel came after Trump concluded his first official tour abroad which took him to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Brussels and then Italy for a G7 summit.

They followed Chancellor Angela Merkel's warning on Sunday that the United States and Britain may no longer be completely reliable partners.

Germany's exasperation was laid bare after the G7 summit which wrapped up on Saturday with the US refusing so far to sign up to upholding the 2015 Paris climate accord.

Days earlier, in Saudi Arabia, Trump had presided over the single largest US arms deal in American history, worth $110 billion over the next decade and including ships, tanks and anti-missile systems.

Gabriel said Monday that "anyone who accelerates climate change by weakening environmental protection, who sells more weapons in conflict zones and who does not want to politically resolve religious conflicts is putting peace in Europe at risk".

"The short-sighted policies of the American government stand against the interests of the European Union," he said, judging that "the West has become smaller, at least it has become weaker".

“...anyone who does not want to politically resolve religious conflicts is putting peace in Europe at risk”.

Note to Europe: That would be those hundreds of thousands
of Islamic fighters/migrants you have allowed into the
heart of Europe.

I wonder how this will affect Merkle’s plan to import half the middle east into Europe?

Guessing it will put a strain on their budgets having to pay up to NATO - etc.

Does us not going along with climate change cost Europe money? Just not sure how this works.

"Boy, Socialist really get pissed when they're told they have to pay their own way."

Germany, replacing France as the head surrender monkey of Europe.

Well, given that Germany is going over to the Muslim invaders at Merkel’s invitation, I sure hope Germany is weakened. We need to shift our focus eastward and help Poland and Hungary and the rest of the Visegrad Group. These countries see the threat that is overrunning Western Europe and want to fight.

It is arguable that Europe's affluence is due to the USA taking on the expense of defending Europe from the Communists and from Germany. That is a huge gift to the European economies, now economy. If we had terminated that arrangement and made or allowed Europe to pay its own way in defense then Europe would have no more need of NATO and would probably have devolved into its previous Warring States condition.

We still need to maintain Europe because Germany has risen enough from its ashes to again begin to make real power plays in the Continent and the world. Most of Europe now is pretty much a German colony but not with armies and slaughter. If we allow Germany/Europe to develop a military capability that is commensurate with its economy we would be a resurgent Germany/(europe) vying militarily to be one of the Great Powers again, and ultimately THE Great Power. I would rather we put that off a few more years.

I would like to see the US with Trump develop a sand approach to Islam and force Europe to expel the cancer it has imported. We can do that. It would require an America not oriented to the Millennial snowflakes generation, though.

Germany is not “the West.” Germany has never been “the West.” Germany has sought the destruction of “the West” in two major wars in the last century. Germany, in its globalist ambition, seeks the destruction of “the West.”

Nonsense. The rise and return of German militarism will never happen. Germany and the rest of Europe are dying demographically. These are aging populations dependent upon a welfare state that is going broke. You don't build armies with fewer and fewer young people. And there is very little stomach for fighting in today's Germany where the youth have become pacifists and burdened by collective guilt for their Nazi past.

I say that advisedly being married to a German for 48 years, living in Berlin for four years and having visited the country regularly over the last 50 years.
