The Trump administration argued over the weekend that back-channel communications are acceptable in building dialogue with foreign governments, part of an effort to minimize fallout over White House adviser Jared Kushner’s reported discussion about creating a secret conduit to the Kremlin at a Russian diplomatic compound.

But some former administration officials on Sunday criticized the use of such secret channels...

Remember when Obama's "back channels" to anti-American foreign governments was lauded by this same establishment media.

MotherJones:

NYTimes:
"How Obama’s Undercover Statecraft Secured Three Major Accords" Excerpt:

"In plotting its Cuba overture, the administration drew on the success of its secret back-channel talks with Iran."

WashingtonPost:
"The Omani 'back channel' to Iran and the secrecy surrounding the nuclear deal"

TheGuardian:
"Secret talks and a personal letter: how the US-China climate deal was done" Excerpt:

"But American and Chinese officials had been in search of an agreement – through official meetings and back-channel negotiations – since the days when George Bush was president."

Another example is the oft-praised but fundamentally problematic back-channel by John Kennedy to Khrushchev during the Cuban missile crisis. The result was a US-Soviet deal that, in part, led to the removal of American nuclear missiles from Turkey — and a denial by Kennedy that any such deal had been arrived at. Coupled with other missteps, the result was that the US military began to suspect that JFK was not fully loyal to the country.

We could always call out WaPos and CNN lacking any honor and integrity with the most vehement ways possible, but I don’t think they care much about it.

Back channels are how you go around the deep state. Like JFK did in the Cuban missile crisis when he had to do an end run around the Joint Chiefs that wanted to launch a preemptive nuclear war.

It wasn’t fundamentally flawed. It prevented a nuclear war. And yeah, the military leaders were disloyal back then, not JFK.
They were pushing very hard to usurp power and to push for a first strike on the USSR. Hard to imagine a more un-American thing to do. The Chiefs under Lemnitzer approved and forwarded a plan for Operation Northwoods. They wanted to have a series of false flag terror attacks, killing some Americans, to justify a war with Cuba. That’s pretty disloyal too.
The Military along with the intel world did correctly suspect JFK didn’t share their sick Col Flagg views, so they had him murdered.

Back channel is very common in the DC area from JFK to Oboner.

Back channels in DC work for politicians, businesses and others.

Suppose Mr A knows and is on speaking terms with Mr B and Mr C. Mr B and Mr C don’t know each other. C would like to meet or talk with B. So he asks Mr A to arrange it or to pass info on to Mr B.

Thanks for posting a list of Obozo’s back channel events.

I thought all the presidents had back channels to get immediate access to leaders for important discussions. With today’s intelligence community infiltrated with Marxist traitors, you need a back channel more than ever.

You welcome.

As you stated, presidential back channels have been very common going way back and the anti-Trump media knows it.

My point was how recently the lying double standard media was praising Obama for the very thing they're now attacking Trump for.

Kennedy’s back channel was a good thing for the human race. Too bad the American public are ignorant of their history and get swayed by media propaganda.

If the Cuban missile crisis deal was so good, then why didn't JFK make it public and subject to normal executive branch and Congressional oversight once it was negotiated? Instead, Kennedy and his administration lied and claimed that there was no such deal.

The secret talks that ended the Vietnam War are also problematic in that one account has it that Nixon reneged on a secret pledge to pay billions in war reparations to Vietnam. In return, the Vietnamese were said to have kept many of our POWs, with later US governments unable to take up the issue in an honest fashion.

In sum, secret back channel diplomacy can often set the basis for misfortune because it commonly lacks the professionalism and oversight of normal diplomacy. As much as Trump may like his son in law, and as whip-smart as he may be, I am skeptical that inheriting a real estate fortune and piddling about in the Manhattan real estate market makes one qualified to establish and conduct back-channel negotiations with the Russians.

also if he has the presidents permission or instruction to do it. he has done nothing wrong as long as Trump was president when the conversation took place.

If Kushner needed a backchannel to Russia, why didn’t he just ask his father-in-law for one of the backchannels previously used to transmit the passwords for the MI/PA/WI voting machines?
I mean, am I missing something?
This seems like a no-brainer...

Although some aspects remain murky, recent scholarship indicates that Kennedy's back-channel negotiations with Khrushchev were unnecessary to the resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Indeed, the result of those negotiations was concessions by the US that were probably unnecessary./p>
